No menu cocktail experience - go with an open mind and be ready to try something new!

I cannot fault anything at Bar stories, definitely a place we will return to frequently - the bar staff were knowledgeable and created bespoke cocktails from our brief descriptions of flavours/classic cocktails we enjoyed.

We really enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching all the cocktails being made before our eyes. The creativity and palates of the staff is outstanding.

This place advertises themselves for having no cocktail menu with bar tenders that can create bespoke cocktails to your taste. First up, I told the bartender I did not like refreshing cocktail and wanted something smoky. He served me a lemony gin cocktail with burnt rosemary—I guess if it ticks the “smoky” requirement, you can ignore the non-refreshing aspect the customer specified. Next, my partner requested for a boozy rum based cocktail. After waiting 30mins and reminding the bartender, we got a NON-rum cocktail that was boozy. At this point we realized that the bartenders actually have a very limited repertoire and even a fixed list of cocktails to actually serve up. There was nothing bespoke about it, at least on the day we visited.

There are few bars that I head to regularly and Bar Stories is one of them. And rightfully so. Before the slew of secret bars became visible, Bar Stories has that hidden feel. The original bar is tucked on the second floor of a shophouse on that famous Haji Lane stretch. Now it has an extension on the first floor but head up as that’s where the charm is. A tiny bar greets you at the stairs with a smattering of bar seats. Head to the other room for more privacy. They’re one of the first to start with a no-menu-no-drink-name bespoke concept. Name your poison and they get creative with the concoctions. My favourite combi is – absinthe and a dramatic presentation, please. #eatstylishtravelstylish

The staff is completely clueless as far as service is concerned. I cant comment on the drinks as we weren't served any even after sitting for 1 HOUR on the table. We were " Warned " ( the word Warned was used by the person who was taking our orders) that since its a bespoke bar it would take 15-20 mins for our drinks to arrive but the drinks weren't served until 1hour. We decided to leave without having any drinks. On noticing we were walking of - A particular staff member instead of being apologetic was rude by saying "we already warned you" . That was our "Bar Story
