Stayed at Christmas 2011 for 10 days, paid for de luxe room but was only allocated basic (I think they were downgrading package clients because they could sell to others at a higher rate) they insisted the room was correct although even their own webpage indicated otherwise. Room was clean but very basic and carpets worn down to the nap. We did not eat there since the hotel was only a 10 minute walk from Clarke Quay with a multitude of excellent restaurants.
This was our 6th hotel in Asia in 18 months (some just 3 star) but was undoubtedly the worst)

On arrival we asked for the cost of upgrading and we thought it was quite reasonable considering what is included in the Executive Club. The staff there are warm, friendly and genuine and were interested in what we were doing and were fantastic in assisting us in our varying needs. If you smile and be friendly you more than likely get that in return. We will stay here again for sure

Room Tip: room 2112 has a great view

We stayed here because we liked the location. When shown to our room there was absolutely no room to walk, it was bsically a double bed with a day bed for my son and a very tired bathroom. We immediately advised we were unhappy with the room and were upgraded which was good. The new room had more room and looked like a newly renovated bathroom.
However after two nights stay we returned to our room with a letter under the door advising the water had been cut off due to a burst water pipe and that it would be repaired by morning. When awaking the next morning it was not repaired. We went out for breakfast and by lunch time it had been repaired.
When mentioning this when we checked out we were advised we received a complimantary fruit basket and bottles of water, which we had not.
Extremely dissapointing, price not reasonable for state of hotel and would never stay there again.

We stayed at the Furama City Centre in November 2011.
Our room was small and in need of modernisation but very clean and adequate as a base to from which to explore Singapore. The room and corridor on the 13th floor smelled musty and damp. We asked for something to be done about it and a machine was immediately installed in our room and the corridor which helped a little, but I think that it is generally a problem in the hotel. The pool was a real disappointment, very shabby indeed. I expected to have a quick swim after a day sightseeing, but having looked at it I didn't bother! The hotel also charges to use WiFi which I believe is ridiculous in Singapore.
On the positive side, the location was excellent for sightseeing, we walked to Clarke Quay in 10 minutes and Chinatown is on the doorstep. There are also a number of MRT stations nearby.
The staff were all very kind and efficient. Breakfast was plentiful with a wide variety of Western and Oriental foods.
Someone else summed up the hotel very well, saying "would you prefer a posh hotel with far too many people trying to have breakfast at once and where none of the staff know who you are or the Furama, which is a bit dated and tired but the staff welcome you and always recognise you at breakfast?" I think somewhere in between.....

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better the room. Ask for a room overlooking the opposite side to the pool.

This hotel is clean and has a great location. The rooms are a bit older and the hotel does not offer free wifi.
