“Charming and beautiful”

Really a beautiful hotel. It used to be the main Post Office, and now converted in a luxurious hotel. Great view from my room, a huge marble covered lobby, a ggod bar (I had a tasty burger as a late dinner there). The place is fascinating, in its colonial style, and quite charming. Staff are very professional, responsive and kind. Thumbs up from my side!

We always wanted to stay at the Fullerton and were really looking forward to have our wedding night and evening preceding our wedding at your hotel. We thought, we would not have to worry about anything and would have a great start and finish to our special day at the beautiful location.

However, that clearly was not the case. The Fullerton disappointed us on every level. The level of service was dismal and the state of the room was very bad. We did not expect this at all. There was no end to the issues that we had to deal with from the moment we checked in.

We made our booking online on for 3 rooms and had requested that all 3 rooms be close to each other as we wanted our friends and family to be close to us. This was acknowledged by the staff when we made the booking. Check in time is 3 pm, we got there at 3.15 pm and were informed in a very nonchalant manner that one of the rooms 'should be ready in an hour' because we wanted the rooms close to each other. The reception acted as if we were making an unreasonable request. This was highlighted months in advance and acknowledged by your people and it is only a basic expectation that our rooms should be ready on time. We should not have been made to wait or have to follow up so many times for the room.

We went to have a look at the other 2 rooms first, the Premier Quay Room was completely unacceptable. It had dusty curtains, floor and armchair (which made one of our bridesmaids and me sneeze and have a rash like reaction). It clearly had not been cleaned properly for a long period of time as there was a very musty smell. The curtain railing was faulty as the main hook was broken of (as a result the curtains could not be closed properly). It was obvious that the management was aware of this issue as the second hook (and seemingly the subsequent hooks) were put in the hole meant for the first. It is disturbing to know that a hotel such as yourself could not be bothered to have the hook replaced and the curtains cleaned and in proper order. The balcony was also dirty with algae /mold growing in the corners.

We called to have these issues fixed and though they did send someone quite promptly, there was little he could do because there was 'no extra set of curtains ' etc. To solve the issue they said they could offer us another room on a different floor away from the rooms that we had booked for our wedding party. They made us wait for a really long time, gave us no updates and then we decided to go down to your concierge personally to have this sorted out and they said they are taking care of it.
At 4.45 pm still no reply or a new room and no updates given. Even the third room was still not ready. We can pay for a room, but clearly we cannot be expected to have it on time for the duration we paid for it. We called again and finally at 5pm they gave us the keys to the third room but still no update on the new room for us.

At 5.30 pm we had enough. Our wedding was the next afternoon and we were supposed to be taking care of important wedding matters and welcoming our out of town guests. Instead, we were wasting our time waiting for a room in what was supposed to be the premier hotel of Singapore! We went to the concierge again and this time they were very apologetic and showed us 2 rooms. We appreciate that the suite was offered instead of our type of room, but the upgrade did not make up for the initial chaos and not for the subsequent issues.

They promised us that all our luggage from our previous room would be transferred to the new room. Surely the Fullerton can move some bags, boxes and clothes from one room to another. So we left to finally take care of pressing wedding matters because we were really, really late.

At the taxi queue at the hotel, the doorman let another guest cut the line in front of us because ' that guest is going to the airport,’ He did not ask us if we minded or even acknowledge that we were there. Is payment to the doorman necessary for normal behavior when getting a taxi? We were already late for our wedding festivities because of the room fiasco and now this. When a taxi arrived, the previous guests did not have the correct currency to pay the cab driver. So the cabdriver had to wait to get paid (not the fault of the hotel). However, when we were waiting for the money to arrive, the doorman just opened the door and started talking loudly and making wild gestures. No “excuse me”, or walking to the other side of the cab to talk discreetly with the cabdriver. Not caring how to treat guests. As was proven a few seconds later when he slammed the door shut (not looking at the cab) straight against my knee. No apology, no excuses, no nothing, he was already walking away. Could not be bothered.

When we got back we checked into the suite. The room was nice and big but it had its flaws. The remote for the main curtain (living room) did not work which meant the main curtain could not be opened. A piece of broken glass was wedged between two wooden floorboards on the verandah outside which cut my foot. By this time, we realized that no matter what we said to your management or reception, we would not receive the service you would/could expect from a hotel the Fullerton pretends to be.

We decided to order toast for breakfast, half the bread options on the menu were not available. Instead we got generic supermarket sliced bread which we were charged a ridiculous amount for. Cheap bread that was cold (long time between toasting and delivering) or hardly toasted at all and definitely not the quality you would expect from the Fullerton. Bad quality and bad service.

A few hours before my wedding, I realized that my wedding shoes were missing. We frantically checked with our friends if we had left it at home only to realize that the Fullerton staff had forgotten to move one of the boxes from the previous room to our new room. We had to follow up (again!) with the reception and they finally sent somebody up to check the old room and they indeed found the shoebox on the table. The shoes were brought up to the room by one of your staff who just said ' As requested, please check that this is yours ' and handed us the shoebox and walked away. No explanation was given on how this was missed, not even an apology!

We asked for a late check out considering how much of our time was wasted by the hotel and they said it was not possible. When we highlighted to them that we only got one of our rooms on time and the other 2 post 5 pm, they agreed to 3 pm for one of the rooms and 1 pm for the other 2 room. But on the morning of the check-out they told us we had to check out from the suite at 12 pm and again we had to remind them that they had offered us a 1 pm checkout. By this point we really had enough of the Fullerton and their pathetic treatment of their guests and we decided to check out at 12 pm from our room.

We expected the best possible experience from the Fullerton and the Fullerton failed on every level. The level of service and the quality of the rooms was shockingly bad. We don't appreciate that our time was wasted and caused us unnecessary stress on our wedding weekend. The Fullerton does not live up to its name and we hope they will not do this to anybody else. Especially on their wedding night/weekend.

Room Tip: Don't waste your time and money at the Fullerton

This is the second time we have stayed at the Fullerton and returned for the location, view, pool and the great service.
Unfortunately there are some renovations taking place which caused some disturbance. We would have preferred to have had some warning of this as it was loud at times when taking a nap through the day. Having mentioned the noise, the staff and Duty Managers did all they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible and because of their amazing customer service, when we do eventually return to Singapore, we will be staying here again.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms facing the bay for the nightly light shows.

Thank you The Fullerton Hotel Singapore for making this anniversary celebration staycation a fabulous one! Thanks for the bottle of red wine, the cute little heart shaped balloons and the strawberries. As a feedback, may I suggest that you consider substituting strawberries with chocolates or cupcake as the strawberries were seriously sour? Big Love for this beautiful hotel which is so rich in history. The location is just unbeatable. We checked into room 342 which I learnt from the friendly Duty Manager, Warren that it is a newly furnished Courtyard Room. The Courtyard Room is interesting as you look down into the gorgeous lobby (see pictures showing both the right and left wing of the lobby). Nice elegance decor in the elongated room. Bathroom/bathtub is huge. Shower area is lil restricted and may pose challenges to some. We enjoyed streaming our music to the Harman Kardon Onyx speaker available in the room throughout our stay. You can get a pretty view from the pool on level 2. We called the operator at 5.45pm to check if there was a shuttle running to Raffles City. The operator said there was one leaving at 6pm but asked for number of paxs to check if there was space. She called back at 5.55pm saying there was and asked us to proceed to the lobby. When we reached the lobby we were informed by the concierge that the hotel shuttle is not a bus but their own limousine. However, the limousine was engaged and the hotel has arranged a regular cab to send us down to our destination and picked up the fare. Kudos to the exceptional service. As for the breakfast, I am going to be a little bias here after having enjoyed really awesome hotel buffet breakfast in Bangkok. Is good but not excellent but I did say I am going to be a little bias. Overall, a happy and memorable stay for us.
