The hotel and bar restaurant enclosed. I was on the second floor and it was noisy due to the bar, but quiet down after midnight. You might want to ask for a room on the third floor not facing the street for a quiet night. Due to un planned longer stay from visa issues, I stayed in a queen room and a single room. Both are tiny, and with luggages, you can hardly get around. The standards for these small hotel is the shower and toilet are one and the same. You can sit on the toilet and shower, or stand and carefully shower. But the whole floor gets wet. Some shower has a third stem that you use as a bidet for the toilet. Wifi was strong near the elevator, but very weak furthest away, thus you need to open the metal door to let the wifi signal in. Tmobile world roaming was very good and reliable, even in the farthest room. However, after 2 to 3 weeks they will threaten to close your account as you used too much bandwidth ! Eventually, you need a data sim. Floor is old and stained. Bed is firm. Pillows soft. Sheets clean. The wacky outlets are 220 and has two style of plugs, round and flat and horizontal. Most outlets are flat and horizontal. So bring an adapter kit for your cellphone and other 110 appliances. Perfect location, walking distance to everything, although the river and botanical garden is about 2 miles a way. Cable car about 2 also. Chinatown, Maxwell food market is 4 to 6 minutes walk. You cannot beat the location. But, it is what you expect in China town, old, cramped, damp. Price is unbeatable for Singapore. Lower your standards, ignore the musty old carpet in the hallway, bring ear plugs and you will be happy!

Great location and if you book a balcony room then you should like the stay. The balcony room itself overlooks the street and had a great atmosphere. There was music from the bar next door but didn't bother me. I had a second stay which was in a non balcony room and that was depressing. You can open the windows but there isn't anywhere or room to sit other than the bed. The passageways smelt damp. There isn't anywhere secure to leave your luggage if you have a late flight. It is left in the front area which anybody can access. Reception is non existent after mid afternoon. If you need a cab to the airport just download the Grab app because if there is anyone at reception they won't book a taxi for you

This was my third stay at 1929. Once I'd gotten over the shock of just how minature the room was, I settled in nicely.
The single bed was a superior, wide version and very comfy. The linen, towels and all bedding was changed daily, which seems very excessive and not at all environmentally friendly.
The wet room bathroom had a good strong shower, though the hot water seemed to run out 4 clicks sooner than I was ready for. The rain head shower head is over the toilet in what is truely a wet closet.
Theres no fridge in room, and a shoddy collection of Nescafé coffee and Lipton tea.
The room fronted onto the street which was active all night, not disturbing so, but some folk are lighter sleepers.
The staff, on the whole, wouldn't win any prizes for friendliness, except the guy who checked me out.
1929 is well situated to, well, all that Singapore has to offer- attractions, food, local neighbourhoods etc. I would recommend and will stay again.

Stayed here for 3 nights.

Pros:

1. Absolutely love the outdoor area where you can watch sunsets and relax under the sun.
2. Netflix/YouTube available on their TV.
3. Hot water for showering is consistent.
4. Very near to Outram Park MRT and 10 mins walk to Chinatown Point.
5. Check in/check out was smooth and fast.

Cons:

1. Room is dated and feels very old/tired - paint peeling, black mould in bathroom grout. Room does not feel very clean overall.
2. Floor was not vacuumed when we first checked in. Lots of stray hair and crumbs on the floor.
3. Outdoor bathtub really dirty with stains. No such thing as bathing under the stars as advertised on their website. We couldn’t bring ourselves to go near it much less use it.
4. Rooftop bar next door plays thumping loud music all day. Thankfully we can only hear them when we’re out on the patio.
5. Lack of privacy - patrons at the rooftop bar next door can see you clear as day if you take a few steps near the ledge.
6. No fridge to keep your drinks cool.
7. No in-room telephone so any problems you will have to physically go down to reception.

Other side notes:

1. For light sleepers, be aware that you will be awoken by birds chirping non stop at 7am. I’m guessing the birds are right above on the roof because they’re extremely loud. Pretty annoying when you want to sleep in.
2. Prepare yourself if there’s a thunder storm because the entire room will shake with the sound of every thunder.

Overall, we think the room is not too bad considering the price we paid (we used a promotion so got it for half the price). If we had paid the actual full price, I think we would be more dissatisfied. Understand that it’s covid period and the industry is a bit depressing with no tourists but I still think that’s not a reason to fall short on cleanliness of the room, especially when guests first check in. Keep your expectations low and you will have a pretty good stay here.
