Owner description: An experience for all five senses. Start at the Tekka Centre, a traditional wet market and food court where fresh meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits and dry goods are sold. Cruise down Serangoon Road to find more groceries, restaurants, teahouses, tailors and Mustafa Centre, a massive department store selling anything and everything. Visit during Deepavali, the Hindu festival of light, held in October or November.

“Like a trip to India, without the hassle (and no cows in the street)”

I've been to Singapore lots of times but, oddly, never bothered visiting Little India. It was a top priority on this trip, and we loved it : terrific Indian food (head to Racecourse Road), interesting shops (bought a 'spice box or Masala Dabba, for only a few dollars), and a great atmosphere. Not to be missed!

“It's a Little India Indeed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

Being in this place is like being transported into a whole new different world. Almost everything around is Indian from the structures, to hawker food, restaurants, and people of course. There are a lot of cheap items being sold by the stretch of Serangoon road and also a 24-hour mall near Farrer Park, Mustafa, which boasts really cheap stuff. Do drop by the temple also along Serangoon road to complete the cultural experience.
I also had the privilege to see the parade during the Thaipusam festival where devotees are pricked with pins and followers are dressed in really colorful Indian clothes.

We visited singapore in july 2008 and as everyone suggested , we made a visit to little india. And it was worth it...and amazing to see the influence of Indian products in Singapore. As everywhere else in singapore, things were quiet expensive here also.Dont forget to eat at Komala Vilas, it is supposed to be one of the oldest indian hotels there.

“Lively, nice part of Singapore”

We spent an afternoon with walking through Little India. It was a truly enjoyable walk with many interesting things to see on the streets. It is a program you can do in 2-3 hours.

“Authentically Singapore”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2012

A good place to visit and take a walk down the lanes to discover the colorful background left behind by our colonial masters back then and also the dashes of decoration by the Indian migrants and local residents. Soak in the music and laughter provided by the pubs attached to the backpacker lodges. Get squashed in the sea of people inside Mustapha Shopping Mall. Visit the 100 yr old Hindu Temple. Travel with care through small lanes and watch out for lurking shadows.
