I stayed nearby IKEA Alexandra and used to frequent the restaurant for some coffee. The coffee is fragrantly aromatic, but I would drink the coffee not at the restaurant but slowly sipped it while relaxing at an eco-park behind IKEA. There are wooden seats among the trees and plants, and I enjoy the therapeutic `shinrin-yoku' (forest bathing) effect among the rustic greenery here. You can hear the cicada buzzing sound even during the day. This park is the Rumah Tinggi Eco-Park but very few people have heard of this park as it is well hidden behind IKEA Alexandra.
This narrow slither of land was once the former KTM-Alexandra Railway sideline which was constructed for military use in the 1930s. In the 1950s, the sideline served the Archipelago Brewery Company (ABC) which produced `Anchor Beer'. The Customs was located within the ABC warehouse. In 1983, this railway was expunged when Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) was constructed. The sideline was later converted to a neighborhood park and the park was opened to the public in 2014. It is no wonder that a train playground that resembled a locomotive is constructed for children in the park.
If you are coming to IKEA restaurant or going to ABC Brickwork Hawker Centre, why not come here with your cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the rustic vibe of this little eco park.
