A nice view from the top.....if there was not the industrial port. A bit disappointing, very commercial spot. One can walk down to come back to town

I love this elevator because it really has the best view of the Port of Valparaiso. Although is really pretty you have to make sure you go during daytime and you have to be really careful with your belongings. There's a really good crafts market place where you can find a lot of iconic things from Valpo and Chile.

Our tour bus stopped some 300 metres from this lookout and we walked downhill along a narrow street, past a funicular, National Maritime Museum, houses with the usual graffiti, dog poop on the sidewalk and roadway and then we arrived. Great views of the port area, the cranes, the container stacks, the ships, the cruise liner, the roof-tops. And then I turned to my left and there they were - the stalls; all opened and waiting for the tourists. We were the second bus. The small promenade of stalls was clean with nice shady trees.Took some photos, purchased a soda and meandered uphill back to the bus. Half an hour and there were so many other landmarks ignored for this stop. Might be ok to stop if passing, BUT a special trip here.!!!

One of the city's most charming features is a series of 15 funiculars built between 1883 and 1916 to transport citizens up the steep hills surrounding the waterfront. It's about 25 cents to take one up to this promenade for very good views of the city from above. Some time should be spent strolling along the rampart and scenic overlook.

Not really sure why people recommend this town for visit as it is rather dull. The sea side is just a port and I can't say seeing cargo being loaded onto ships is that exciting to me.
