We stayed at this hotel and all we can say is "we love it!". The beautiful landscape enters through the panoramic windows into the room and the surrounding area is spectacular. I wish the building was taken care much better since it is new but there seems not to be great maintenance. I am sure when the building opened back in 2009 it was awesome but right now it needs some repair. Other than that, it is an amazing place to stay.

Room Tip: Conveniently close to Quito.

This place first of all is extremely far from everything! It became a standing joke that everything takes an hour to get to in Quito except our hotel you add an additional day for travel. The room is in very poor condition! Closet leaked soaking all my clothes for the wedding functions we were to attend. Sky light leaks and soaks rugs because of moisture in the air every night can not wear socks because carpets are wet. Room infested with bugs that get in clothes and towels. Staff is non existent if you plan on leaving early and returning late getting staff assistance is not possible. They had us turn in the key upon leaving the gate every morning as we had to wake the grounds man up to open the gate to leave in the morning then when we returned late it took 45 minutes to get it back because it took twenty minutes to wake someone up to get help and then the one person available to help had no idea where our key was! Paint is peeling everywhere in room! Falls in luggage, in hair when standing at sink and in toothpaste while standing at sink brushing teeth! The fact that they have Trip Advisor awards hanging everywhere concerns me about the legitimacy of the awards. Arranged with hotel for ride to airport for flight back to US. Flight was to leave at 8:30am was told we could not be picked up till 6am and that not to worry it was a 35 minute drive mind you it took us an hour to get to the hotel from the airport. But we could not do anything so ok driver to arrive at 6am. Driver did not arrive till 6:40 after much freaking out we almost missed the flight because they could not get us to the airport on time with the pretty much mandatory arrival of 2 hours before international flights! In trying to resolve these issues we addressed it with the staff who could not help. A manger that showed up the night before we were to leave and gave us an attitude. The reality was there was no one there the whole time that could address the issues and that's our fault how?!?! Safety could be a concern as it's so far and the areas immediately outside the hotel premises are rough! No reason to stay here! Nicer hotels all over Quito and you can still come visit Mitad del Mundo and El Crater park and not put up with the misery that El Crater Hotel will cost you!

We are deeply saddened to read your comment, far from the truth and purely malicious.
If you were unhappy with the room why did you not change it immediately? We would have complied with pleasure, without any charges and with the same category of room. Instead, you waited until the last day, 5 days later, to make your complaint, demanding a significant discount in exchange for not making negative comments in TripAdvisor.

We are indeed 30 minutes from the city as you will have realized by taking the transfer services that we supplied to the airport for free. This is obviously part of the essence of the hotel, you cannot find the experience of this spectacular crater in the Quito city center!

It is very unjust and disagreeable that you are using TripAdvisor and other channels to attempt to extort and slander our establishment. You have carried out your threat in the face of our refusal to comply with your demand for a discount.

We are always attentive to TripAdvisor for constructive comments that help us improve our service. Your comment has nothing to do with this.

Location is perfect: starts in the night. View 5:30 am is the best. Shower clean and nice. Is save place, romantic. Food is average nothing special. Price is a little high, but is good because not a lot people arrived or sleep there for this razon.
Arrive early before you get your room so you can walk, take pictures. The fog arrives around 5-6 pm and you can't enjoy the view. The bed is very confortable and make hard awake early for walk. Vale la pena caminar y bajar el crater

Room Tip: pay more and get the suit with the view to the crater from the bed.

Staying at El Crater with it's unique stunning volcano top position and it's view to die for, was to be the ultimate relaxing end to our vacation, but our high hopes were sadly dashed.
We arrived, straight out of a few days in the cloud forest all sweaty, grubby and looking forward to a hot shower and a freshen up before dinner. BUT... there was just a dribble of muddy water coming from the bathroom taps and barely a dribble from the sink. Calls were made, rude maintenance guys visited, but unfortunatley, no water was forth-coming. Promises of it being repaired never really materialised, although some water did appear briefly before bed.
Dinner in the restaurant was quiet, as it turned out we were the only guests in the whole hotel. Food was good though and the service was attentive and thoughtful too.
In the morning though, no water, nothing, not a drop. We couldn't even flush the toilet.
Lots of phone calls made during our breakfast, Google Translate helping out with the waiter that didn't speak English, but there was no foreseeable end to the water problems. So, finally we were given a refund of our outstanding night and a free taxi ride to a new hotel.
I know these things happen and beyond the managements control, but it could have been handled way better. Some upfront honesty at check-in would have helped, from the manager and the engineers trying to fix it.
But hey, we had a great nights stay in another hotel that had an amazing shower !!!!

Room Tip: Before booking a room, check that water is working first !!!
