If you are trying to decide if the all day hike is worth it just say yes and do it! Drink the tea and train your body ahead by hiking long hours before you go. There are a few technical climbs, but really, if you can climb stairs at an easy pace all day you can do this!

We did the Inca Discovery trip, including 4 days on the Inca Trail, with G Adventures as part of a three week holiday to South America. The itinerary was excellent, the trek was beautiful. Most of all our guides Julio Mendoza and Yoshiro were outstanding.
They gave us a brilliant introduction to Peru, made the tour fun for our children
and looked after us very well.

Julio was an outstanding guide. He is from Cusco and was very proud of his city and country - he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about history, geography and culture.

He had to deal with a diverse group from age 12 to 60+, fit and fast walkers and much slower walkers, lots of questions from the children (and adults!), someone falling ill and he dealt with everything professionally. At the same time he made it fun for everyone.

The teenagers were even willing to get up at 4am because Julio asked them to -
despite their worries before going on the trip.

I suffer from altitude sickness so was a little worried about this before the trip, but I was OK apart from a couple of headaches. The first day from Cusco goes down to the Sacred Valley which is helpful for acclimatisation. I took Diamox for a couple of days on the trip.

The local porters were friendly, highly organised and cooked the most amazing food each day.

We don't usually go on guided tours but found we learnt a lot more about
the country, culture and history by travelling with a guide in a group like this.
The visits to community projects were very interesting.

The Inca Trail is one of those few iconic world experiences which really lives up to expectations. It combines learning about the Incas and current Peruvian culture with trekking in the most beautiful landscapes.

I would recommend this tour to anyone who likes walking in the mountains
and learning about new places. It was perfect as a family trip.

The Inca Trail is a one in a lifetime experience. It was a bit hard especially with the altitude but with a good guide and a good group it was totally worth it! If you think you can't do it for any reason like not being ready enough just know that i did this without any training and being sick so it's totally feasible!

With an entourage of 16 people for a family of seven, this was a very professionally run trek. Great empathy and help to get you through the four days, especially the second one, and exceptional food. The tour guide, Edwin, was outstanding with an understated style and excellent command of English. You felt safe all through it. Oh yes, the views are spectacular and feel hard earned. The end point, Machu Picchu, is stunning and a great study of an ancient civilisation.
