First of all, the staff here was welcoming and very helpful, giving me tips on exploring Cusco and where to eat. When I left for my trek to Machu Picchu, they held my luggage and even packed me a breakfast to take, since we left really early.
I love the neighborhood of San Blas, up on a hill overlooking Cusco, full of art and architecture, an easy walk to the Plaza de Armas... I spent much time just wandering the streets and enjoying the feeling of stepping into the past.
My room was adorable. Very white with old style exposed beams and high ceilings. There was even a room-long bench that made repacking my bags so easy. The hot water worked well and the breakfast was typical for Peru. The wifi worked great, too.
The only drawback for me was the street noise. Since the hotel is at the end of a one lane street, across from other hostels, etc., there were many taxis picking up tourists early or dropping them off late at night and, for some reason, a lot of them have back up beeps. Cars either back up to the hotels or back out so, being a light sleeper, that's the only 'bad' thing I can say regarding this hostal. If you're not a terrible sleeper, it might not be an issue.
I highly recommend.More
