The hotel consists of separate buildings on a beautifully manicured campus: Reception, Dining and Bar [2], Spa, Library and approx 44 Guest Casitas can be found along with a Stable. Our Casita was over 1000 sf with a comfortable King Bed, Sitting Area, Dining Area, Desk and a marble Bathroom to die for [separate soaking tub and shower along with double sink basins. The decor was delightful. There is an outside patio with chairs; either a fireplace inside or firepit on the deck, I don't remember. This property was so much nicer than my house. I thought it would be nice to move here.

The dining was what one would expect from Relais & Chateaux with a varied menu of Peruvian-style dishes and desserts. We did not use the Spa or Heated Swimming Pool, but they looked very nice.

All I can say is that if you plan on going to the Sacred Valley of Peru, and want to stay in a high end hotel -- Sol y Luna is definitely the place you want to be.

Room tip: Tip: There is about a six minute outdoor walk on campus from the farthest Casita to the Dining Area and Reception.

Sol Y Luna
We stopped at Sol Y Luna (SL)for lunch while we were traveling through the Sacred Valley (Urubamba). I had been there seven years ago on a prior trip to Peru and I am glad to say that it is as special as it was seven years ago. SL is the restaurant in the SL Hotel, which is part of the Relais & Chataux Group and, therefore, one would expect a terrific place. Not only is the food very good, but the horse show they put on makes the whole experience unique. Nice to see SL is still at the top of its game.

Pros: Beautiful Grounds
Cons: Ants in the bed, no climate control in the room, no window screens, no television in the room

When you book a hotel room, you’re expecting a comfortable room and a good night’s rest. Sol y Luna provided neither of these.

We were very excited for our one night stay at the Sol y Luna hotel. We checked in to Casita 1, walked around the beautiful grounds and went to dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants. When we returned to our room after dinner, the turn-down staff had turned on the portable room heater and put hot water bottles in the bed. It was a very mild evening and the heater made the room entirely too warm. I laid in bed trying to get some sleep before an early check out the next morning only to find ants in the bed and crawling on me. Since the windows in the room do not have screens, we did not want to open the windows to let some air in, for fear of having more bugs and critters in the room. It was too late in the evening to complain/change rooms and we just wanted to get some rest before an early check out the next morning, so I laid there in bed sweating – while smacking ants off of me (and no television to distract me from choosing such a disappointing hotel in the Sacred Valley). At check-out the next morning, I told the front desk staff about the ants and the room heater.

We’ve now stayed at a few resorts that do not offer televisions in the rooms, but they all offer something special; all-inclusive excursions, breath taking views, etc. – Sol y Luna offers none of these. It’s just a hotel that does not have television in the rooms.

It was a massively disappointing experience at a hotel I was very much looking forward to. Sol y Luna couldn’t provide a comfortable, insect-free room and at the end of the day, that’s all you’re really looking for.

Room tip: There were ants in the bed - what else can I say?

Dear Guest,

We are all very sad to read your comment. My team and I are all deeply committed to offer a friendly and caring service - praised by all our guests, and there is no cleaning issue at Sol y Luna, our owners constantly invest to maintain the property and sometimes be surrounded by “beautiful ground” as you mentioned and in the middle of the nature is difficult to keep this little ants away.

Sol y Luna is located in the center of the sacred valley and has the advantage of being a place with privileged views as well as having a beautiful spa, swimming pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, we offer activities and tours, besides having two nice restaurants, we are sure that if we had known that a television was so important to you we would seen the possibility of offering a acomplimentary up grade to another category, I would have been happy to address any complaint you may have had when you were with us.

Sincerely,

Food, service, staff, gardens - casita!!! All were exceptional! You have set a high bar for quality and beauty! Peru is exceptional and Sol y Luna is an xveptional property! Wish I could have purchased some of the art on the property- it's great! I was a lttli disappointed in the gift shop- it didn't measure up to everything else which was all SUPERB! Fantastic food! Loved our casita!

Room tip: Casita #40 was wonderful! Our own fireplaces-2! And our own jacuzzi- outside!!

Sol y Luna has one of those seemingly nondescript entrances, but once inside it is just paradise in the Sacred Valley. We had a junior suite casita that had a living area, bedroom and huge bathroom. The casita opened up to a small garden with our own little jacuzzi. It was a welcome respite after a whole day of touring.

The staff is absolutely wonderful. They anticipate your needs. It was rather cold when we were there and they would bring hot water bottles to put in the beds to heat them up. We appreciated them more than chocolates on the pillows!

Breakfast starts at 5:00am for those who have early trains to Machu Picchu.

There is a horse show right outside the restaurant in the afternoon that is pretty entertaining.

All in all a great place to relax and unwind in the sacred valley.
