We read the amazing reviews on trip advisor for this hotel, and decided to book. To say the very least we were not disappointed! Quite simply this hotel is terrific. The rooms are spacious, and with great facilities. The pool is lovely and incredibly looked after. However what truly makes it very special is the fantastic hospitality that you receive from all the staff. 5 stars.

We were *supposed* to stay at the Suites Ambassador for two nights rounding out our honeymoon. We had booked our stay through Travelocity and had brought along our printed confirmation receipt (thankfully). The hotel tried to deny that we had reserved OR paid for our room. When I showed the receptionist our receipt she acted as though they did not accept Travelocity bookings. We called in her manager who confirmed our booking. The receptionist then asked if we wanted to "leave a little extra money". I didn't understand her initially, assuming that it was a language barrier. It turned out that she was asking us to pay down money on our credit card IN CASE we made any room charges, but for a totally unspecified amount that we would not get back. We said no. She looked momentarily surprised but then just shrugged. They then took us to a room with two beds, despite requesting one bed (clearly on the travelocity print out). So they took us to another room and then asked if we smoked. We said no. They removed us from the second room - which was a non-smoking room - to bring us to a third room which reeked of smoke. We refused the room and spoke with the manager again who told us they had no non-smoking rooms. We asked, "what about the second room you just showed us?" The manager hesitated and then agreed to give us the room.

The hallways are off-color cinder blocks that look more suited to a prison than a hotel. Although the room was cheaper then other hotels in the area ($60/night), it was horrendously dirty. There were actually blood stains on the duvet cover and the bed was some sort of odd, springy joke. The bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned and had hair (not from the head) in the toilet and on the seat. We were so disgusted that we checked out and booked ourselves into the nearby Crowne Plaza, losing our money on the Ambassador Suites.

(As an aside, after explaining our plight to the Crowne Plaza receptionist, he offered us a discount on the room and left us a bottle of champagne).

I was absolutely appalled at the condition of the Ambassador. It's worth it to spring an extra $20 a night to stay at a better hotel.

Who says the power of the pen can not solve issues that really bother you? This is a follow-up posting to the one written below because of a great thing that happened because of this website. A fellow traveler saw my review below and sent me an email and asked me questions about Suites Ambassador. I explained to him that the hotel all-and-all was a great deal (based on the expected cost) and the staff could not have been better. The pool was great and the rooms were perfect - the billing problem is what soured me on the hotel from the start. Well the fellow traveler stayed at Suites Ambassador last month and gave them a printed copy of my review. They immediately got in contact with me and I'm happy to say that my credit card was refunded the entire amount today. Although nearly 2 years later, I was reimbursed. I can't exactly explain how or why there was a communcation break-down but I'm sure it can be attributed to my moving from London to DC a year ago.

Suites Ambassador is in a great location and a bargain for the business traveler, family or anyone in Panama for the first time. I do suggest that you book directly with the hotel and avoid the hotel booking web sites. You'll more than likely get a better deal and you won't have to worry about the possibility of being double billed.

Good luck and travel smartly.

My husband and I have stayed at the Suites Ambassador at least 4 times. The staff is welcoming, helpful and pleasant. It is NOT, however, on the beach. It IS downtown and convenient to everything.

The suites are roomy and comfortable, but certainly not luxurious. Everything is very clean. The pool is small, but servicable. We enjoy eating our breakfast out on the "balcony" off of the breakfast room and watching the city come to life. When we go our 4 year old grandson, who lives in Panama, visits and has plenty of room to run around.

There are plenty of very nice restaurants within walking distance(also McDonald's is only a block and a half away).

The beds are comfortable. The coin operated washers and dryers come in handy.

We have had opportunities to stay at newer hotels for a little less money, but the "suite" would not be nearly as large. Suites Ambassador works well for us, almost seems like home, and we would highly recommend it!
