Review of The Crankmill

This is another building that tells of the horrors that the convicts went through. The plaque outside outlines how the mill was used and the severe treatment. Tends to put that era into perspective.

Hell and Paradise a book by Peter Clarke, Norfolk is a Paradise now but was Hell during the convict occupation. This place was worked by the convicts in 15lb leg irons and it took many men to work it, screams were heard throughout the town. Tour guides give a great insight to the misery that resulted.

One of the ruins that forms so much of the history of the island. Now well preserved in mid-decay it will help provide context for the whole area.

Have a look around and a walk inside. Read the plaque outside that tells you all about the building. Employ your imagination to think about what life was like in those hard times. Another fascinating bit of NI history.
