Camino Real is a beautiful hotel in Antigua. We stayed there with our Overseas Adventure trip , OAT Route of The Maya. The rooms are luxurious and very well appointed, with excellent beds. The hotel is located next to the shore. The included breakfast was one of the best we had. Staff are very friendly, helpful. There is excellent views of the volcanoe mountains nearby.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The facilities were extremely nice. Our room was clean with two comfortable queen beds. The breakfast was fantastic especially when they had the buffet on the weekends. The only issue I had was that the A/C didn't get as cold as I would have liked it at night. But I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Antigua is a lovely place. This hotel is one of their very best. Great service too and attentive staff, lush garden, great beds and inmaculately clean a total delight. Breakfast brunch on weekends is a must in the city

I used the Camino Real for a meeting of 30 people and stayed for five nights. First, the staff is amazing. The hotel seems to have a lot of staff on hand for the relatively small size of the hotel (100 rooms, so large for Antigua). While they don't all speak English and planning a conference in English was a challenge, they could not have been nicer or more gracious.

The rooms and grounds are absolutely lovely. My room had two queen beds and probably 15 foot ceilings. The rooms were spacious and those beds were unbelievably comfortable. The bathroom was quite large and enjoyed some natural light from the sky lights too. There was always plenty of hot water and plush towels. The only English tv channel is CNN and I was trying to escape news in the US, but when the wifi signal was strong enough I could watch Netflix (it was pretty slow after dinner hours - probably when a lot of people were streaming video).

I used the gym a few times. There is adequate equipment with two treadmills, an elliptical, a couple bikes, some free weights, yoga mats and even a Wii Sport. I didn't get a massage but there were a number of options available.

Breakfast is wonderful. On days when the hotel was busier it was served as a buffet and other times it was served plated from a choice of four or five options. They had everything from local dishes (the refried black beans were amazing) and omelettes to breads and smoothies. I tend to get sick every time I travel but I did not get sick once in Guatemala - so eat it all up! The rosa de jamaica (hibiscus tea) was awesome too.

The location is a nice little walk to the center of town, but it lets you have the quiet that you don't get in the center of it all and an amazing view of the Agua Volcano directly behind the hotel. There is also a delicious Italian restaurant right next door that is a cheaper option for lunch and dinner. They have a Hertz rental car desk onsite, and you can arrange day trips to Tikal or Lake Atitlan with them.

I would certainly recommend this as a top hotel for your stay in Antigua!

Room Tip: I would avoid rooms near the jacuzzi as there were often loud children in it.
