I highly recommend undertaking this tour if you want to learn about Buddism and understand more about the temples you are visiting in Luang Prabang. Our tour guide was a young man, a former novice monk, who was passionate about teaching us about Buddism and life in the temples. We only did the one hour tour, the rest of the guests (being 3 others) stayed on for the mediation session. I really liked going into the temple, Wat Pa Pai.
We were met by Cee (sorry if that is not how he spells his name) who gave us a very informative description of the daily life of the resident monks and novices. We then went into the temple and were told about the beliefs and chanting associated with the Buddhist beliefs. This was followed by a one hour meditation instruction. Tour very worthwhile.
This tour was amazing. We learnt a lot about Buddhism (not the writing:)
The friendly young man explained everything in a good English. He was very open to our questions and gave us a good Idea about living as a Novice or as a monk in these wats.
I cannot recommend the temple and meditation tour enough. This is not just dry information. This is a precious insight into temple life in Laos and how it is to grow up as a monk. I travel a lot and try to stay away from mainstream tours and groups, but this experience is unique and I highly recommend it.0
Before doing this tour, I knew practically nothing about Buddhism or meditation, and I wanted to get the "101 introduction". This tour definitely exceeded expectations. I learned many fascinating things and got to ask the guide anything. Highly recommended.
The Orange Robe Tour is a fantastic way to learn about Buddhist life in Laos. Our guide was very informative and drew on a lot of his own experiences as a former novice. Highly reccomend it to anyone visiting Luang Prabang.
