Due a strict curfew all the drinking venues inside Luang Prabang's city close at around 11.30pm. After this time you have to go to one of two places outlying the city; Dao Fah nightclub or Luang Prabang bowling alley. According to Lonely planet this place is only open from 9-11.30pm. However, when we went there (admitingly on a Saturday) we stayed until 1am in the morning (we left ourselves rather than the club closing) so I think it's later on the weekends. It is located outside of town off the road to the southern bus terminal.
Went to this place once on a Saturday at around 11.30pm. It is based in a building that sort of resembles a warehouse. Inside the club there were a lot of people (maybe 200) of which ~85% were Lao and ~15% were Westerners. There is a large lowered square area in the middle with elevated levels on either side. There are small high tables everywhere. At the bar you can pretty much just get beer lao which is fairly cheap at around 20,000kip for a big one. However, you can't really get spirits. They stock only (when I went) Johnny walker scotch and chivas regal, and they don't have coke or other mixers so you have to shot it if you want it. Everyone inside the club drinks beer Lao and stands around the small tables. Within the club are some great lighting effects and a DJ playing very loud tunes. In that regard it has the atmosphere of a normal club except that the Lao people inside just stand around drinking beer and not moving. It's a bit bizzare. Has a nightclub look and atmosphere but the people inside act like they are in a pub, The 30 or so Westerners that were in there moved to the front of the club and tried to make a make-shift dance floor but it felt like the other 170 people in the club were just starring. It was a bit odd but nevertheless an interesting experience and one I would recommend to others.
