This place is awesome, depending on what time of the evening you go, you may catch some live music or Karaoke with impromptu performances from the well-dressed men in the audience who ate cajoled into getting on stage - good singers though, to raffles/tombolas with bottles of whiskey being the prize, to the late night scene which might start with some old Laos classics with people of all ages enthusiastically dancing Laos-style (with the bendy fingers), and then on to pumping dance/hip-hop/pop – again with impromptu MC-ing from the often female DJ. This place is an assault on the senses to newcomers as it’s arguably the only place where you will really see what the locals get up to behind closed doors (letting their hair down), not to mention the place is lit almost entirely by neon lights! When going for a toilet break, enjoy a shoulder massage and don’t forget to chuck the attendant some change. Tourists are welcome but always show respect and you will be treated well, not to mention looked after by security - who are really there to make sure your night goes well. The charm this place holds is rough charm, it’s a rough gem, but it’s REAL – a local place – and let’s hope it’s not built over for a good long time yet. We all remember a disco like this.
