Go back in time in this old, kolonial-style 'palace'.... Very romantic time here...the weather was very good, not much tourists and attentive staff. Althoug the rooms are dated and it is not spotlessly clean....it has so much charm...we will not forget it! At the resaturant we were alone, and...it took lots of time to order us, but with this magnificant look on the Mekong, it did not bother us. Food was good! Breakfast also ok. Don't forget you are in Laos and with this price (80$/room?) it is good value. If you take a walk you find hidden sports everywhere: a museum, a swimmingpool.... We travel with a wheelchair and...this property is okay...although not perfect! (floors are not equal everywhere because this property is old) but it was okay...and we were in Laos...so this is not the most obvious place for a wheelchair user. If you want to go to town: you can take the small bus-taxi from the hotel. Mostly the driver was so friendly to pick us up at the resaturant!! so thaanks for that!
We had really a great great time in laos!

Stayed at the Grand on a recent visit to LP. Beautiful grounds with a spectacular location overlooking the Mekong.

Hotel is about 10 minutes outside of central LP. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to central LP or you can take a tuk-tuk which will cost about 50kip.

Staff are very friendly and efficient.

The property is an old palace converted to a hotel so that creates a great ambience. One down side is that it could do with some TLC. General maintenance could be stepped up but I would expect that owing to the sheer size of the property, being beside the river in a very hot and humid country this would prove a challenge. Please do not get me wrong dear reader ....the hotel is lovely with exceptional service in true SouthEast Asian style. This is one area that could do with abit of attention.

The grounds are immaculately kept and truly beautiful.

The pet water buffalo are an absolute joy.

Having breakfast overlooking the Mekong is a real treat.

I have stayed several times in the Grand and this time we had a corner room with excellent views on the Mekong. The hotel is not new anymore and would need some upgrading but the swimming pool and the garden is great. The management pays great attention to the gardens but should pay a bit more attention to the service in the restaurant. Breakfast is good. The usual stuff for a hotel in that price range but though there are plenty of waiters and trainees, it's hard to get coffee in the first place or a refill without getting up and walking over to the waiters. We also had lunch twice and the food was good. This is a place to go if you want to relax a bit and enjoy the pool. If you are keen on walking around in LPQ and going in and out of the hotel, then it's not the best place to stay. I also found the internet connection very bad in the hotel. They told me it has nothing to do with them but then all other connections in the city were much faster.

Hotel is old but the grounds are beautiful. Breakfast is served next to the Mekong River. Just a bit out of town but overall not very far. Wish the fixtures and rooms were newer but it wasn't horrible. Gave it 5 stars for the grounds and views.

We stayed here during Nov 2012 as part of a Jules Verne tour. The setting was the best hotel of our trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Breakfast is served by the river, a short walk from your room. It is very peacefull. The hotel is about a 10 mins ride from the centre, we managed to flag a tuk-tuk down who charged $2 each for 3 persons($6). It is too far to walk. Take a card from the hotel for your return trip as language can be a problem. The swimming pool looked inviting but we did not have time to swim. Yes the rooms could do with a lick of paint but it adds to the character.
All rooms seemed to have a view of the river and you get free Wi-fi if you can connect manually rather than auto-connect. The staff had problems understanding english overall so could not help with the IT problem. There are free computers in the reception if you want to use them.
No safe deposit box in room but the reception can store your valuables for free in the in a saftly deposit box behind reception.

Room Tip: All rooms face the river with a view.
