The bamboo bridge leads to another world. It is a lovely walk, once the weather cools down, particularly in the late afternoon and early evening. You need to pay 5000 Kip per entry for the low-income family that maintains and upkeep the bridge.
Both of these bridges are st the bottom end of town, one at the rear of Phousi Hill and the other at the merging of the rivers. It costs 5000kp to cross but well worth the effort.
The structure is amazing and is rebuilt in the rainy season as it gets washed away as the river swells.
This locally built bridge is quite a unique structure as it is removed during the wet season and re-built each year after the rains. The small crossing fee pays for the family who maintain and construct the bridge and well worth the crossing and contribution. If you cross one bridge and return by the other you will need to pay twice. No problem as it goes to a good cause. Great photos of the bridge and from it out across the Mekong and pretty by night all lit up..
It's a bamboo bridge guys. Not even the same one from year to year.
They'll charge you like everywhere else in Laos because you're a tourist. Sure it's not a hefty fee at 10,000 kip but that'll buy you i large beer lao or 3L of preimum water. It adds up.
It'll build with our without your help so do it if it's important to you.
Therea re actually 2 in town.
One looks a bit more rickety than the other and zig zags a bit more that leads to gardens and temple on the other side, great for sunset.
The other leads to the other side of town with ore temples, restaurants and accomodation (such as MyDream).
Both will charge you.
It was a nice experience, but you have to pay money to cross it. There is not many things you can explore, but just watching Mekong and chill also good.
Do cross this bridge, at near sunset time. Walk up to the Eden Gardens for a drink or lunch / dinner. Well worth it. During set season this bridge is not available, due to high water levels.
