Loved the hotel, right in the center of JBR The Walk where a lot of restaurants and cafes are open right opposite a great beach, it is the place to be in Dubai's winter when the weather is cool and dry.

The hotel has a large lobby and check in was fast. All rooms have views of the sea with a nice balcony. We got a side view room on the 26th floor. The room was new, the bathroom had a separate tub and shower. The beds were very comfortable and we got a chocolate on the side of the bed daily.

Will certainly come back, got a discounted rate when staying 3 nights where I only paid for 2, no breakfast was included but there are many restaurants right outside the hotel where you can get a great breakfast, so that wasn't a problem.

This is an excellent five star hotel in a great location on The Walk in Dubai with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops very close by. Hotel service was always quick, efficient and friendly. The luxury rooms on the front of the hotel are very good quality, reasonably spacious with huge beds, and nicely appointed bathrooms with separate bath and shower. All have a full sea view. There is free wifi all over the hotel. Free complementary bottles of water are plentiful. The hotel does not have a resort feel to it - more of a hotel for a business traveller or for adults. It is not suitable for families with young children in my view - but is marvellous for couples wanting a relaxing break.

Downsides are:

You need to request a room on the higher floors (floor 15 and above) if you want to avoid the noise which comes from The Walk.

The beach is across a road and large car park - although it's a lovely beach when you get there, and the hotel give you a complimentary pack which includes beach towels, bottled water etc. Nevertheless - people with young children and those who like to lie on sunloungers (there are none) most of the day relaxing would be better to choose one of the hotels with private beach frontage.

The pool area and the pool itself are very small by Dubai standards (and anywhere else's standards come to that). Although it is nicely appointed, there are very few sunbeds - around 20 or so for an hotel with 32 floors. This means you won't always be able to relax by the pool and it will become very crowded.

We found the evening food in the restaurant expensive and of average quality to the extent that we ate at the nearby Hilton and other hotels in preference. The hotel also rarely seems to provide the buffet that is advertised - we were told this is due to lack of interest. This may be because of the quality of the food - but more likely is because there are so many restaurants within walking distance. If you want a buffet - go to the Hilton - it's around £30 for an excellent selection of food.

Overall this hotel is more of a business hotel than a resort hotel. For families, they should head for other Jumeirah Beach hotels where there is a beach frontage and large pool areas. This actually suited us as we very much liked the more muted atmosphere and we don't like to be in a family environment.

By the way - if you want an evening drink - make sure you do so in the bar between 6 and 8 as this is Happy Hour when you get 2 drinks for the price of one - this brings the prices down to central London prices. Any other time, the cost of drinks is prohibitive in all of Dubai (around £35 for the cheapest bottle of wine). Do use the local taxis (make sure you use the government ones with the red and yellow colouring) as they are cheap and plentiful.

I would recommend this hotel to adults/business travellers without hesitation and will certainly return.

The Sofitel Jumeirah Beach was a top-notch experience from the moment I arrived. This being a new hotel, everything felt nice, clean and comfortable. The décor of the hotel was tasteful, as was the suite I had.

The service staff was all well trained, from the concierge to the reception desk to the porters. There was always a smile from the staff to greet me. There were also guest relations members of the hotel who were positioned discreetly to help with all enquiries I had. It appears that the hotel’s ethos was that of attention to detail and charming hospitality – it worked and these were big factors in making me feel at home and welcomed during my stay.

The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool, and was one of my favourite spots during sunset each day.

With regards to location, the Sofitel is in the heart of the Jumeirah Beach area. There are many quality restaurants and cafes on the entertainment strip on which the hotel is located that will no doubt satisfy all dining preferences. Traffic is heavy in the JBR vicinity during the weekends. Unless you really need/wish to be dropped off at the entrance of the hotel, it’s safe to walk - if you don’t wish to watch the taxi meter run as you wait in a traffic gridlock.

If you’re an independent traveller, the Dubai metro is very accessible. It’s approximately a 15min walk from the hotel (if it’s not too hot) or a short 8min cab ride. I would highly recommend the metro as a means of getting around as it bypasses traffic (which can be bad in Dubai), and stops at most attractions.

In all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sofitel – I would not hesitate to return when I am next in town.

I think they used a lot of wrong materials, because the quality of the finishing is not very good. I think repair team will have difficult time. That is a shame.
Service is ok, but not special, maybe this Accor formula. Food is fine, but the feeling overall is still preopening. I expected a bit more from the hotel. Hopefully it will become better, because location is nice.
The service would be accepted if they charge opening rates, but they charge as if they exist many years. They should be careful with the rates for the time being
