It's the complex known for the many elephants. Not particularly big but worth the stop. Climb to the top for a good view of the complex and stroll around to get a view of the elephants.
This was one of my favorite temples for its red coloring and the elephant statues. It is older than Angkor Wat and the construction materials include bricks. There were fewer visitors than in some of the other temples we visited.
As with the other temples, if you want to see the details and learn more about the history, you need to hire a guide. We were lucky to have Ratana (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g12591811-d13831714-Reviews-Angkor_Guide_Ratana-Svay_Dangkum_Siem_Reap_Siem_Reap_Province.html) recommended to us before our trip. We contacted him weeks before our trip to plan our visit. He got us to the best locations, explained everything and answered all of our questions in details.
This temple has some beautiful carvings and memorable statues. We especially liked the elephants and the lions.
Part of its beauty comes from the lack of restoration. It has been cleared of jungle growth, and some of the structures have been supported for safety reasons, but it is mostly unrestored.
This wasn’t our favorite or most memorable, but we still liked it. They have some amazing elephant carvings on the corners of the walls at each level that are the highlight. We didn’t spend much time here as we were driving the grand circuit, but enjoyed the time. Climb up the stairs, wander to the corners to see the elephants, get to the top, and then leave. If you walk fast you can do it in 10 minutes or you can take your time and pause and reflect and enjoy it you are not pressed for time. But don’t just drive by (and no crowds)
If you’re coming from Banteay srei and start the temple circle in the north, this is the first Tempel on the left. Take a walk around and be impressed!
