Not worth the time unless pianos turn you on.
Gulangyu island itself is worth traveling to if you have a spare day.

This museum is a rarity anywhere but especially in China. They have some of the most unique and rare pianos that I have ever seen. Especially good for kids or anyone interested in musical instruments.

To be honest, I didn't expect much of it, but was surprised by the great variety of piano's. From some of them I even didn't know that it existed. We quite enjoyed this museum and the walk towards it.

We were in Gulangyu Island with a group and our entrance ticket covers the Piano Museum in Shuzhuang Garden. This is the only museum in China which is dedicated solely to pianos.
The antique pianos were collected by Hu Youyi, an overseas Chinese who was born on the Gulangyu Island. He donated his vast collection of pianos to the government and the museum was opened to the public on 22nd December, 2001.
There's an impressive collection of old pianos that are more than 100 years old in this museum. We saw various shapes and sizes of the pianos, from the smallest to the biggest, that were crafted from all over the world!
A must-see place for music lovers and pianists!

I'm a pianist, so I'm already biased about the subject matter. But this motley collection of pianos is really quite amazing, especially in China. So many old European pianos came to rest in Gulangyu!
