Stayed for three nights. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was extensive with a large variety of food. Room service was okay. The Korean beef was great, but other dishes just okay. Spa - 80 aromatherapy massage nice, but no interaction/ability to discuss problem areas to avoid or amount of pressure applied. It was far too aggressive to be relaxing for me. Very nice park across the street with street level and elevated paths to walk on. Nice pond in front of hotel with black swans, ducks, and geese.

Took the midnight green train (sleeper train) from Jinan to Beijing, arriving at 6 am. Bought tickets ahead of time so just had to show receipt at train station with passports. They were about $100 usd each. Train station involves few English speakers. Baggage goes through X-ray, you go through metal detector. There was additional scrutiny involving opening and thoroughly search all bags. Once they open gate you only have 10-15 min to get to your car/sleeper. Ours had two double bunks. Oddly, there were two people fast asleep when we arrived, presumably from an earlier city. This meant we had to get situated quickly and quietly in the dark. If you are not able to pull yourself up into s high bunk make sure you get tickets for lower bunks! Our car had 2 bathrooms. One was a western toilet that was dirty, the other a squat type that was spotless. The conductor comes by and takes your ticket early, and gives you a card in its place. 30 minutes before you get to Beijing the lights come on in the room, the conductor takes back the card and gives you your ticket back. Once you exit the station, there were police checking tickets/passports, but they waived us through. We followed signs of taxi and once you get outside keep walking straight until you see the taxi stand corral. You will need your destination written in Chinese for your driver. For us to go from the train station to international airport was about $20 usd.

Huge and spacious hotel with very big green territory around. Rooms located in high cylindrical building like honeycomb inside a hive. Tremendously wide and high halls and corridors in conference/meeting part of the hotel. All amenities in our room eere comfortable including nice sofa and Japanese WC with special treatment. Breakfast was very good with superb choice of various dishes of both Chinese and European cuisines. If you will have opportunity, take lunch in the same place and you will be even more surprised by proposition of salads, seafood, vegetables and meet and ice cream and... everything. Highly recommended hotel.

Very well organised and spacious hotel. Air con throughout - critical in this climate.

Swimming pool and very good gym with a mass of modern, well-maintained equipment. Table tennis, chess and other rooms in the leisure centre.
Spa but limited to various massages with aromatherapy and heated stones.

Several restaurants all offering a huge range of Chinese dishes of a very good quality and international cuisine. Something for everyone! The largest selection for breakfast I have ever seen and I am well-travelled.

Bedrooms: spacious, extensive focus to detail, lovely bathroom with spacious shower and and bath.

The Shangdong Hotel was arranged for me by Jinan's Foreign Affairs Office and without doubt made a very hard working week an agreeable and pleasant experience. Nothing was too much trouble, language skills were first class and any issue was dealt with efficiently and effectively. It is a luxury hotel with excellent choices and superb facilities across a significant footprint in terms of rooms, conference facilities and banqueting suites.

The IT facilities are top notch and WiFi connection consistent. The broadcast and CCTV coverage was fully professional and efficient, however, the 'Chinese way' seems to always be a last minute affair that leaves the speaker unaware of what is being changed, scheduled to be changed or left as unexpected! Last minute changes are normal! Insist on what you have agreed. This is about the only unprofessional element of any presentation or Conference. Interpretation, via headphones is excellent and professional.

Another small point to note is to insist that you can monitor your own slides or video from the speakers plinth (always have your back up on USB, iPad or phone), perhaps bring your own laptop. Constantly looking behind you is distracting and amateurish and must be avoided. Last thing to note is to ensure you do a sound check so that feedback does not occur. So arrive early!

One of the most striking elements that you first encounter in the hotel itself is the profusion of art and sculpture. It is tasteful, significant in size and dominance and can be quite colourful. It sets a standard for artwork experienced elsewhere and shows that the hotel owners have not skimped on a tasteful and Cultural (Chinese style) experience. As an aside the indoor carp are like small submarines!

From the top floors of the hotel the views of the hills are spectacular but sadly a constant haze or smog limits the distance to be seen. The room I had, 2212 was spacious, well appointed and clean. The bathroom was a good size with an excellent shower and a delightful bath. Towels and guest products were plentiful and of high quality. The air conditioning was efficient and quiet allowing for a decent nights sleep.

Food in the restaurant was excellent and 'banquets' were both a sumptuous and a tasteful experience. The wine choice was good and the local beers pleasant.

When I return to Jinan I will have no hesitation in returning back to the Shangdong Hotel but maybe to listen and not necessarily to speak!

This is a luxury hotel with great services. Customer care is excellent and the whole area is just fantastic.

Lobby is overwhelming and beautiful. The amount of artwork all over the place must be appreciated. These artwork certainly add extra detail to the whole experience.

Room was large with great views of the city. Cannot fault it.

Breakfast is superb and delicious with good choices. the birds in the lobby are fun to be around specially when they talk if you pass them. Swimming pool is good. Gym facilities are good too.

Yes, Internet is a bit slow. But everything else is good. I was using a newspaper as a mouse pad abnd the day after i saw cleaners put a mouse pad for me. That amount of care and detailing is really great.

Although a bit far from the city but tgis cannot be a major issue. Taxi rides to town are quick and easy.

Loved the place. Great experience. Stayed there 3 nights and would highly recommend it. This is a huge hotel and be prepared to get amazed!
