First off, the staff here are awesome. And they speak perfect English too, which is not something you find often in Chengdu. It's also situated in Qintai street, as in, right in the middle of it and next to the only Sichuan face changing opera you should go to, Shufengyayun which is in the cultural park (a large park with rides for young kids that only cost £1, eg dodgems, merry go rounds, etc etc). There's also a communal washing machine that you can use and a western breakfast (we didn't go for this because there was a whole lot of Chinese breakfasts to sample outside for only £1 yes you read that right, per dish!)

Downside- for the same price, £45/ night, you get to stay in a good, 4 star hotel in the city centre. Yes, no kidding. There are no lifts and we stayed on the top floor. The toilet was really smelly, you're not supposed to flush toilet paper because of the old plumbing system. Nice balcony but no windows in the room. Very basic place, like a lux youth hostel. If it were priced accordingly I would have given it 5 stars.

Also if you want good food avoid the restaurants on Qintai street in general, plenty of authentic ones right outside the arch.

The staff if very helpful. The rooms are great. The food is also very goo. It located in a nice area with plenty of things to do. Wide/Narrow Alley, Jun Li are close by. The subway is within walking distance. I absolutely love this hotel!

We really liked this place. Designed in a pleasant old chinese style with rooms surrounding and open courtyard where drinks and meals were served. Staff all spoke good English and went out their way to be helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable although a bit of noise at night. Breakfasts fairly basic but good buffet with a choice of Chinese and Western food. Great central location

Room Tip: Probably less noisy on the upper floors

The Wenjun Mansion hotel was excellent. It's a small hotel that's in the heart of Chengdu. But Qintai Road is made up of old-style building but within a district that's vibrant and active with several parks, great restaurants, and shopping within close walking distance. There are no elevators at this hotel but the staff will gladly help with your luggage. They can also assist with tours and suggestions. The staff in general was helpful and courteous, although my experience in the restaurant less than ideal.

This was one of the best places we stayed at in China. Beautifully decorated big rooms with a separate sitting area and an enclosed shower which is rare in China.
They have a washing machine on the ground floor which is free to use. The hotel is in a nice area 5 minutes walk from the metro station and about 10mins walk from a supermarket. Outside the supermarket there is a row of food stalls with really good cheap food, no English menu but the owners go out of their way to help. The staff speak English and are very helpful.
