We spent three nights in Chengdu and stayed at the Wenjun. The service was amazing, with a supremely helpful front desk staff that made our stay much nicer. The kitchen staff puts out a very nice breakfast and the food seemed popular at other times, though we only ate breakfast there. It's a good location as Qintai Road is very picturesque and the hotel is a short walk from a nice park with a Sichuan opera house and tea houses. It's also a 15 minute stroll to the beautifully redeveloped Kuanzhai Alleys. At least two good hotpot restaurants are also on Qintai Road so all in all, it's smart to stay here. They can also help arrange trips, such as to the panda reserves or the Leshan Buddha. Our room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and they provide a water boiler if you want to make tea in the morning or instant coffee. Maybe the only downside is the bathroom -- ours didn't offer total privacy to take care of your business and a light right above the mirror would have been nice. But these are minor details and all in all it is a superb place offering great value for the money.

The staff was great! Especially Michael and Frank. They were helpful and kind. They arranged everything and were great! Location was perfect.
Go to the opera-a 2 minute walk from hotel. Much less expensive booking through the hotel than the opera box office! Stay at this hotel!
We really enjoyed this place!!

I wanted a typical Chinese building and I gladly found that the pictures were very accurate. The big bonus was the location: one of the most beautiful old streets in Chengdu! It was a real pleasure to walk around and it was very photogenic either with day or night light. The rooms are nothing special, true, but they are comfortable and spacious. The food was quite good and it was nice to have dinner in the courtyard. The other great thing was the staff: the 2 guys in reception were very friendly and helpful, and they had the best english we heard in China, which gave us a great opportunity to chat with a local, especially the one that was also our driver one day. All in all, excellent value for money!!!

Hotel has a very chinese heritage structure on the outside. Inside the rooms no differences from any other standard hotel. Rooms are moderate. Staff are friend but my room do have a light odor coming from the toilet.Room is spacious. Downside. no lift and if u staying on 4th floor with heavy luggage, do expect a workout. Is a cultural refurbish hotel of ages. so is a norm not to find lifts. Love the courtyward setting for chitchats. Bad for those staying on the ground floor just next to the courtyard. near the road and can hear vehnicles plying the stone-tiled road outside. Pricey on the higher side. Near the metro for easy access.

Nestled amongst the old style buildings of Qintai Road is this hotel. Qintai Road is paved and lined by retail shops, tea houses and restaurants, and there is local opera there as well. This is a great area to experience local culture and products. Peoples Square is walkable and a metro station that will take to close to the pandas or to the airport is around the corner.
The rooms are large, clean and quiet and the bathroom was modern. On the walkway outside each room is a table and chairs where you can enjoy a relaxing drink and overlook the courtyard tea house café.
The hotel restaurant is not too bad and we tried a traditional Sichuan dish which was typically rather warmly laced with chilli.
This is a nice hotel in a good location and I will stay here again when I come back to Chengdu.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter but no lift can make access difficult for some people.
