We thought we were fortunate to get one of the few rooms with a balcony in this hotel in the center of Medellin. Though noisy, we thought we would enjoy seeing city life. Boy, did we see city life!
We'd hear people shouting periodically and rush to the window and, more often than not, there would be police collaring a would-be pickpocket or the citizens would be administering street justice to a captured thief, that is, beating the heck out of him. It left us scared to walk on the street. One evening we actually saw a mugging from our window where four thugs held, beat, and robbed a tipsy man walking home.
The center of Medellin is exciting, but dangerous. We refrained from going out on the street but when we changed hotels to the Poblado neighborhood, we had no problems at all and took strolls most evenings.
The hotel itself seems to have seen better days. The rooms are small, the bathrooms have no handles or locks, the spartan tile floors are stained, and the towels are threadbare. Our alarm clock didn't work and if you lifted the phone handle, the cable would fall right out of the phone itself. Seemingly out of place, the bathrooms do have hairdryers mounted to the walls.
It is very inexpensive, but even at this price you can probably do better.More
