We were fortunate recently to have stayed at this lovely hacienda.
Don Rollendo and Dona Chelita make you feel welcome and part of their family. Our room had an incredible view and the bed was warmed at night by cozy hot water bottles. We were given both a walking tour of the grounds and a tour by truck of the historically interesting property. Dinner was gourmet quality and Dona Chelita was kind enough to give me a recipe for one of the terrific dishes she served that I had loved.
The hacienda is a little difficult to find, but well worth the effort.

Room Tip: We had the upstairs corner room (3?) with a queen bed and fabulous views

I had a free weekend on a trip to Quito and Hacienda San Isidro de Iltaqui was the perfect choice for a peaceful few days. It only took three hours to arrive by public transportation to Otavalo and Cotacachi, and then a taxi for the last six kilometers-- I'm sure it would have been much faster by private car. The owners greeted me like family: they joined me on walks in the gardens where I was invited to pick and enjoy all the plums and blackberries I wanted; I was welcomed to hang out in the kitchen with the owner and watch and chat as she prepared me a gourmet organic dinner; and her husband gave me a private tour of the property, including sacred indigenous sites, with explanations of the religious and historical significance of the area. My room had a gorgeous view -- a great setting to read and write.

We went during the Carnival holidays. The friendliness of the owners is unique. Do not miss the stories about the indigenous community told by the owner. We were surprised by the tireless work of Joselin, an employee of the ranch. However it is overpriced compared to the service they offer and accommodation in Imbabura. Average food and accommodation.

My wife and I brought our 3 boys - ages 12, 10, and 6 - to Hacienda San Isidro for 3 nights in December 2015 and very much enjoyed our stay. This 200-year-old hacienda (a Spanish-style farm) was the weekend country home for a successful Quito family for 30 years until the parents retired and moved there full time. They are lovely people, and welcomed us as if we were part of their family, and included us in their daily activities. The house and other buildings look as though they haven't been touched for many years, which is historically and culturally interesting, but also pretty rustic by the standards of a modern American traveller. The place is equipped more as a home than a hotel, and the drafty rooms are still pretty cold at night even with copious blankets and a space heater. That said, we had a great time, wandering the grounds with the husband in his truck, learning about local legends, agricultural practices, and visiting with the horses, cows, llamas, chickens, guinea pigs (the kids favorite), etc., as well as chatting with his wife about her fascinating career working with the President of Ecuador many years ago. Next time we go to Ecuador we would definitely go back and see them!

From the moment you arrive you are warmly welcomed and treated as part of the family. The hacienda is beautiful and you can enjoy alpacas, horses, and blackberries. The owners are attentive to your any need. The food in the restaurant is local and organic. It is lovingly prepared by Chelita the owner. The results are delicious. You can't ask for a more peaceful and tranquil setting in the majestic Andes. Highly recomendad for a weekend getaway from Quito.
