I will first come to the positives - the place is urbane and clean. Well maintained and very new. The view of the Bay of Bengal from the window of the bedroom is fantastic. The hosts are nice and go out of their way to make you comfortable. The location is central and right in the centre of RK beach. Place can accommodate a family of four and has a do it yourself concept in the kitchen. Basic necessities are provided like rice , legumes, salt , sugar , tea etc.
Coming to the neighbourhood ... it’s pathetic .. there is a drain right on the entrance , where the fisherwomen dump the remains of processed fish and prawns.. cat size rats can be seen roaming in the night. I found it a bit unhygienic on this count , therefore have given the place a 3 rating .... else it could go to a 4. Honestly I was happy you was alone and not with family ... RATNA YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING DRASTIC ABOUT THE DRAIN.
The Buckingham Palace does not flaunt a signboard, nor does the Mango House. It is a ripe mango waiting to lure you by its bright orange facade to be plucked as one climbs the green steps. Once you enter this solitary studio apartment rented by Nich and Ratna....a little bit of imagination gives you the feel of being in a submarine surrounded by the sea.....with everything conceivable that you might need encapsulated....from a well appointed and stocked kitchenette to a compact shower ...comfortable bed cum study cum lounge and a periscopic view of Visakhapatnam sea shore, beach, harbour, Dolphin's Nose, fishing trawlers, boats, ships, the harbour, early morning joggers and spectacular trajectory of the rising sun.
Located just a few metres from some gigantic ***** properties, this apparently humble abode provides a sharp contrast ....and a better choice to explore coastal Vizag and its beachside delicacies. The interiors are brightly subtle and exploring each shelf and drawer of the pantry can itself be great fun. There is an exclusive R.O. water tap, exclusive running hot water bath, aristocratic bed linens, an ironing board with iron, clothes lines with clips, an efficient refrigerator. You miss the ubiquitous toaster and microwave only to realise that THEY WOULD BE A MISFIT.
Convenient maps for groceries and food on the go are nicely filed alon with do's and don'ts. DO NOT MISS THE AROMATIC ARAKKU COFFE POWDER and a convenient coffee maker. It is evident that the place took lot of experience to make it self sufficient. There is an elegant Visitors Book. It was not changed even though the initial occupants complained about a litter bin.
However this blissful oasis is not recommend for differently abled individuals or inquisitive kids for whom the balcony could be unsafe.
Highly recommended for people who can survive without partying.
My wife and I, residents of Bangalore, took a short trip to Vizag in January this year. We had been planning a visit for some time. I turned to TripAdvisor and found Mango House, a well-furnished and immaculately clean studio apartment right on the beachfront.
On arrival we were overwhelmed by the care and friendliness of our hosts. Everything in the apartment was thoughtfully laid out, and Ratna had stocked the kitchen with everyday needs.
The apartment has a spectacular view of the sea. Both Ratna and Nick took pains to help us plan our itinerary and arrange transport for us. We enjoyed the conversations we had with them. We learnt that Nick, like my wife and I, is a former banker. Naturally, we had much to talk about, from the subprime crisis to the risks of saving credit card numbers on merchant websites. Ratna is trained yoga teacher.
We found our hosts to be genuinely friendly and warmhearted. Besides having a wonderful time in Vizag, we made two great friends.
The stay at Mango house was really very beautiful. The hospitality was commendable. The rooms were at spic and span especially the infrastructure was awesome.
I loved this place. Every single detail was taken care by Ratna and Nick. They're amazing hosts who will make you feel at home.
You'll not find in Vizag a place like this, even in a 5-star hotel; everything is so clean, all functional (kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc) and it's specially prepared for foreigners.
The view at the sea is amazing, with 2 big windows facing at it will make you wake up in a good mood.
I really recommend this place and I hope that all enjoy this place like me.
In Price-Quality is unbeatable.
PS: the breakfasts prepared by Ratna are the best :)
