Owner description: Devrai Art Village tries to make a bridge between the far flung tribal areas and urban living. Our work addresses modern tastes and sensibilities but is inspired by traditional designs and techniques. Our craftsmen come from the Naxalite hit Gadchiroli and Chhatisgarh regions and are often caught in the crossfire between the State and the insurgents. DAV strives towards evolving a safe space where their creativity is nurtured and livelihoods sustained.

Devrai Art Village in Panchgani is a great place to see artists make great crafts and sculptures. The work done by the artists are absolutely admirable. Great art!!

If you wish to buy some great artistic crafts for decor that can be done here.

(The prices are high)

I had been to Mahabaleshwar and Pachghani during my visit to Pune. I had read about Devrai art Village and hence I decided to visit the place. The place has excellent variety of Hand crafted art work . I could also see the workshop where their artists make the items. It was very informative and interesting.

It is a pity that you do not provide safety gears to your staff. You have priced your stuff to the sky and call it NGO but it looks all questionable as you do not care for your staff. The boiling metal can go straight through their body and who would ans to that? Are you waiting for an incident to happen? Until then no need to spend? Gain some perspective, ethics and humanity and buy safety gears for the staff . I will check on it in couple of months. If not accomplished then the matter will go public and then to the Government

Dear Prati,

Seeing your review on Trip Advisor just now. Wish you had shared this when you had come here. Could have clarified it right then and there. They all have been provided with safety gear. In fact since they are often reluctant to use it a penalty has been imposed just to drive home the importance of its use. I don't know what you saw. As far as handling molten metal is concerned, no safety gear can insulate the user from an accident. It is years of training in handling which we enforce that actually helps them.

On a different note as far as the prices are concerned we are proud to elevate Dhokra craft through innovations to the stature of unique art, which can command the prices you have seen. 'Devrai Rock Dhokra', our patented technique of fusing stone with brass has got us our name and fame and become our 'USP'! We sustain ourselves only through the sales of our creations. Not only do we offer livelihood options to our artists(men and women) but Devrai Art Village has been able to impart a sense of dignity and identity to them as well.

Location: Devrai is located near Sanjiwan Vidyalaya primary section. Google maps will easily lead you to this amazing place.

People : Devrai is brain child of Mandakini and Atul Mathur, it is a NGO which promotes tribal art by empowering the tribals. The Devrai team has artisans from Gadchiroli and Chattisgarh.

Place : The art gallery houses the artifacts made essentially from Rock Dhokra and wrought iron. Rock Dhokra is treat for eyes since it is fusion of brass and rock. The specialty of Rock dhokra is that each piece is unique as wax moulds are prepared exclusively for every artifact created. You can also see, observe and experience the creation process. The amount of time, skill and efforts may not really define the value of these artifacts.

Do try and meet Mandakini and/or Atul and listen to their story of Devrai...possibly you may realise Devrai is not an art village ...it is an experience.

We visited this place last weekend. Around 10 am. This was just opening. There is a very small road that leads to this place. The bus needs to be parked far. It is a small bungalow. The ground floor is converted into an exhibition hall. There are few beautiful things created from stones and metal. As I am not much of an art person, I could not value it. The prices were exorbitant for a middle-class guy like me. Hence As the header of this review goes, it is for rich people and people who like art.
Few more steps below, there is a workshop, where you can see people actually working and making these artefacts.
But this place was definitely a one-time visit place, some change from regular mapro and Sydney and sunset points!
