...if you are in Ubud, I recommend staying as far outside of town as possible. My wife and I stayed in Ubud in early May 2012. We heard from everyone who know who had visited Bali that Ubud is a must see. Well, perhaps before Eat, Pray, Love was written, yes, but now, no. It was a regular tourist trap. So many shops full of stuff we didn't need or want, the old way of negotiating price was replaced with "fixed price." The Sacred Monkey Garden was a bust -- got bitten by a monkey. However, the bright side was Beji Ubud -- friendly service, great pools, enormous room, perfect proximity to the rice fields. You must take a wander in the rice fields, skip the town and enjoy this instead. One other bright point to Ubud, the food in town is excellent. I recommend Naughty Nuri's, Warang Simple and Ibu Oka Babi Guling -- delicious!
