You must book this hotel very far in advance and there is a very good reason for its popularity. We booked last October to stay for four nights in May, the off season. We had to change rooms mid stay because availability was tight. We stayed one night in Jatayu and three in Cendrawasih. Jatayu is a lovely stand alone teak villa with a very fetching outdoor shower and tranquil front veranda surrounded by a garden. It was made up with one king bed and two twins for our family of four. Cendrawasih is a three story house and has a king bed and outdoor shower with a killer view on the top floor and a queen bed on the middle floor. There is a kitchen on the lower level that we never used. It is very big and overlooks the rice paddies and the river that runs adjacent to the hotel property. Jatayu has AC throughout; Cendrawasih has it only on the middle level and can get a bit warm with the fans upstairs. Both are very nice, but we frankly would have been content, when all was said and done, to stay put in Jatayu.

Breakfast was simple but lovely on our veranda or porch. Muesli, eggs, jaffle – your choice – plus fruit, fresh juice, bread, and coffee. You order the night before and they bring it to your room. Pool is small but clean and comfortable with a cool oval, portal-like entrance. We were always able to get loungers for afternoon tea and cake. The grounds in general are very pretty and the views over the rice fields are captivating. The nearby spa and restaurant owned by the same group are reasonable and solid. We had a wonderful diner at Laka Leke, though we didn’t see a show. The food was great, as was the service.

Service. This is what really distinguishes the Alam Jiwa. I have traveled the world over and stayed at every level of accomodation at one time or another. I am doing it again with my children now, and I have never encountered a more genuinely welcoming and kind staff at a hotel in my life. Such warmth. My children were entranced. We stayed in Ubud again later in our trip at a much more expensive hotel with a private pool, and my kids missed the staff at Alam Jiwa! Theyt would have changed hotels in a heart beat. I would name some of the staff, but that would be unfair to the others. All were wonderful. Drop offs are included in town which is really handy with children in tow. They all want you to have a wonderful visit. Follow their advice. We hired a driver off of Trip Advisor one day to tour out to the west. We only found out later that Wayan Rebo, one of the drivers, could have taken us instead. It would have been so much better. Rats! Just ask.

I really cannot recommend Alam Jiwa more highly. They simply do everything right. You must book early, but you will be so happy if you do! Terima kasih once more for our visit.

After five weeks travelling through Indonesia on a diving vacation we arrived for three days at Alam Jiwa to relax before we flew home. We stayed in the Jatayu Room (which was more like a villa with a garden) which was beautifully appointed with plenty of room. Breakfast was delivered and taken very leisurely on the veranda which was a lovely way to start the day. The outside shower was interesting; it is not every day one can take a shower whilst looking at the rice fields

The service was impeccable from being picked up and dropped off at Denpasar airport to getting dropped of in Ubud for some shopping, nothing was too much trouble.

Alam Jiwa is a real gem and an exemplary model on service and accommodation. The staff that run this hotel are so gracious and make us feel so welcome. Alam Jiwa well and truly deserves the Trip Advisor accolade. My only advice is to book early, it’s easy to see why these rooms get booked so far in advance.

First impression were a bit daunting as we had not stayed here before; up a narrow rough laneway we went with the taxi, but there was no cause for alarm. A quiet, peaceful, beautiful place hidden away behind the town of Ubud.
Staff a delight and eager to care for your needs. Very friendly and hapy to chat about life etc.
Outside shower was exciting and looked forward to using but then ours didn't work we were quiet disappointed about this. Had a bath with a hand shower attached that hubbie had to hold over the short wall in order to shower 'outdoors' so no showering together which would have been ideal here had we been able. Large bathroom area. Marble tiles look impressive.
Next to rice paddies which is a beautiful view, but load bellowing by people there to keep birds away does start early some mornings, but this did not really bother us.
Lovely pool area and afternoon tea is provided if you are on site at that time.
Gardens and pond etc a delight. Such a peaceful haven.
Breakfast is NOT a buffet so be prepared for this as options are limited to only one main dish being provided per person. Choices are good but for ourselves we could have done with more than this. Choice of omelette, jaffle, fried rice, pancakes or black rice pudding/porridge. You can also have fruit and yoghurt/muesli and a small amount of toast.
A reasonable but good walk up the road will get you to the rear of the monkey forest. Walking through here at a cost of 20,000 will get you to one of the main streets of Ubud. If you buy bananas you will be harrassed by monkeys continually, which is all part of the fun!!
Definitely would return if they had a vacancy but difficult to find such in this hotel.

We arrived in Bali late at night and were quickly whisked into a taxi from the airport. As the driver roared through the streets at break-neck speed I wished it was daylight so we could see where we were going. After an hour or so we arrived at our hotel. A humble entrance to the paradise that lay beyond.

The staff collected our bags and we sat in the reception with a staff member who welcomed us and then showed us to our room. It was all you could wish for and more. A huge wooden building with a thatched roof, surrounded by a large patio and beautiful garden. To the back of the main room was a large bathroom with outdoor shower. Everything was spotless and a large bowl of fresh, exotic fruits above a well stocked mini-bar.

That evening, although late, the staff delivered us food to our room from a local restaurant. This was a recurring theme throughout our stay as the kind, polite staff continually went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us however they could.

A shuttle bus runs to and from Ubud several times each day, or you can always just make the short walk through the nearby monkey forest. Or if you prefer a more relaxing day you can always just enjoy a pot of Bali coffee and your favourite book beside Jiwa's pool.

The breakfast served every morning was great. My girlfriend particularly enjoyed the home made pineapple jam and one morning mentioned how delicious it was to the host. Upon leaving Jiwa she was presented with a small tub of this jam to take with her on the rest of our journey. If that story alone doesn't make you want to go there, i dont know what will.

From now on when people ask me the question 'if you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?' I reply Alam Jiwa. In fact, i wish i was there right now.

Our family spent 3 marvellous nights at Alam Jiwa. We are so lucky to have chosen this place. The property is so beautiful, it's like time has stopped still. The staff were so welcoming and attended to our needs. There was also free shuttle into the Center of Ubud only 5 minutes. Alam Jiwa is situated in Nyuh Kuning Village just on the outskirts of Ubud. Trust me don't stay in Ubud it is very touristy. Breakfast is excellent and was served in our room on the terrace with views of the rice paddies. We stayed in the Hanoman room with lovely terrace and on clear days you can see Mt. Agung. Trust the reviews and Do yourself a favor and stay at Alam Jiwa!!

Room Tip: Choose the Hanoman room
