If you landed in Bintan for the weekend, check-in at Agro Cabbana for your little piece of heaven.
TIP: if you want the best room they have, ask for the house on the water, last room on the corner. Like that you get to breathe in the whole place.
As a europeean in Indonesia, in a small hotel, you will find that breakfast will be a challenge. For us, it was difficult to eat spicy noodles, chicken curry and deepfried vegetables early in the morning. We tasted everything Asia had to offer in food but not as breakfast. Also, if you ask for a sunny-side up, you will want to add that you want it overcooked beacuse otherwise will get it allmost raw.
The staff on the other hand, shocked me with humbleness and will to help. They will almost make you feel bad with all the bowing and thanking...
The other thing to mention is that Bintan is a place to relax, sunbathe, enjoy the scenery and so on. If you are looking for action, it's not the place you should choose. What we did was once take a kayac and go the tiny island up front. (If you are brave enough and don't mind seaweed and marine creatures, you can try swimming, or better yet walking... The depth of the water is up to tour hips all the way.) The activity is a good workout and an exploring opportunity - the tiny island is packed with seashells, beautiful small stones, chorals etc BUT beware of the flying fish! If you don't know what i'm talking about, google the flying little beasts. The surprised us while at sea and we started screaming like little children ...
The one other thing Agro has to offer are some massages and other indonesian spa treatments - but don't be fooled by the size and look of the hotel, the experience might be a pricy one.
