Owner description: Tel Arad is one of Israel’s most important archaeological sites. A fortified Canaanite city and fortresses from the time of the kings of Judah have been unearthed at the site. The remains of a unique Judean temple and an extraordinary water plant from the times of the Judean kings were discovered in the fortresses. The national park offers campgrounds, a cafeteria and the opportunity to hold events there. A tour of Tel Arad takes between one to two hours.

It was my first time here at Tel Arad.
It was a sunny day and there was humidity but it was worth it. Always take drinking water.

The place is defined as a National Park.
Entrance fee required.
If you do not stay to sleep, suitable for a visit of two to three hours.
Those who are interested to sleep on site, there is an additional charge.
You can spend the night in private tents.
There is a communal kitchen and showers and toilets.
Another option is accommodation rooms.
The rooms have a shower and toilet, and a small kitchen with a refrigerator and micro.
Overall nice place and inexpensive

Seeking adventure, outdoor thrills, “extreme” sport, superb views? Then the hike from Har Amasa (Mount Amasa) high up in the Hebron Mountains to the ruins of Tel Arad in the low-lying desert is just the ticket. We took a cab to Moshav Amasa, and immediately hooked up with the Israel Trail. It climbed up the peak of nearby Mount Amasa where we were treated to a wonderful panoramic view of the Hebron Mountains as they lead down to the vast Judean desert and Tel Arad. We followed the Israel Trail along an ancient Roman highway which snaked its way down the mountain to the very point where mountain meets desert. It was really quite awesome to see that geological wonder with our own eyes. We then walked several more kilometers through the desert, past a Bedouin shanty town, past a lone tree (oasis?) in the middle of barrenness, and after almost 12 kilometers, we arrived at Tel Arad. As we approached it, we felt like nomads who were approaching an immense fortress in the middle of the sands as they did in the days of old. We were too tired and hot to go in and see the ruins, but my wife and I are in agreement that this one of the best hikes and views in all of Israel!

We had a lovely afternoon exploring Ancient Arad. Parts of this site date back 5,000 years. It holds the "House of Yahweh", the only one discovered in the land of Israel. I'm not so good with dates or sequence of events, but this area would have been where the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. The place was beautiful and we had a great time exploring!

I was fortunate to vist the ruins a couple years after they started excavating and then 7 year slater when much more had been uncovered. It is an amazing site to visit and in excellent shape - I always recommend any visitor to Israel visits here!
