I have been here several times both for lunch and dinner. Each time, the food was delicious and the service was professional. They make everything from scratch, so the food takes a little longer to come out of the oven! My kid has had pizza (thumbs up) and I have enjoyed the gnocchi and homemade Caesar salad. It's family friendly but would also be good for a romantic dinner or business event. The French Martinis are one of my favorites!

We REALLY want to like this place, the potential is so great....but every time we go, my wife and I look at each other and sigh in resignation. We visited last evening for a light dinner, and here's how it went:

1. The special appetizer was "heads on shrimp" with polenta and kale. For $15 we got THREE (3) shrimp, size 24 or smaller. Two of the shrimp did not have "heads on", but instead were your standard shrimp with heads placed next to them (seriously?). The heads were completely cleaned out, so no idea why they would serve it that way if you're not allowed to eat the good stuff? The shrimp were so-so in terms of flavor, but for the price they were totally disappointing. (again: 3 shrimp for $15 = $5 per shrimp)

2. We then shared the roasted beet and fresh crab salad:
- Roasted beets? They could have been canned for all we know and tasted....they have a wood fired oven for goodness sake, use it!!!
- The "fresh crab salad" was literally 2 TEASPOONS of some crab/mayonnaise mixture. (again: TWO TEASPOONS)
- The "salad" consisted of 2-1/2 leaves of bib lettuce. Enough said
- The "caraway goat cheese" listed on the description? nada - no show
- Mandarin oranges listed on the description? 4 or 5 small tangerine pieces....totally bland and tasteless
- The above salad priced at $15

3. We then shared one of the 3 pasta dishes, the Gnocchi de pepi.
- We first ordered the Sacchetti, but they ran out. RAN OUT of one of their 3 pasta dishes on a Saturday night at 6:pm! Really?
- The gnocchi was one of the bright spots.....very tender
- the rest of the dish...not so much. The "crispy artichoke hearts" were the opposite of crispy. There wasn't a single color on the plate other than gray/off-white/beige. The sauce was ok, but very rich (how much butter?) and after 4 or 5 gnocchi's decidedly too rich. Not a sprig of parsley or anything to add color. It was a one-note dish....tiring too soon.
- It was maybe 5 or 6 tablespoons in the total serving for $18.

We mentioned the portions but server had no answer (except that maybe they'll be bigger when we come back).

All of the above represented $48 of food.......might be time to give up.

I love this restaurant, everything about it. The food is incredible, freshly made everyday by a fantastic chef, an artist who really cares about his customers. Service is always top notch and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend. It has become one of our favorite haunts when in Albany. Mike and Kim the owners are a fantastic couple who genuinely care about their customer's needs. There is love in every bite!

Stopped in for dinner last night spur of the moment. Liked sitting outside watching everyone go by. Our server was pleasant even though the service was very slow. Food was ok. Portions were small. Not too thrilled. Fish special was bland and the kale was overcooked. Husband had a burger which he liked. Will try again in a couple of months to see if it has improved.

A great find. Five family members, including a 10 and 13 year old, experienced a super evening at Restaurant Navona. With no idea of what to expect, we arrived and entered through their rear entrance to the "back room" greeted by Stephanie who immediately made this a good decision for us. She welcomed us, explained about the layout of the front and back rooms, informed us that our table was ready and that we had time for a cocktail at the backbar before being seated if we wanted. Duh, of course!! Moving on to our table, Alex our server, explained the menu and answered any questions. He was attentive, engaging, but not intrusive. I would say the menu was somewhat different but very inclusive of differing tastes. We shared mussels/clams in both red and white wine/sausage broth, lobster salad, and chicken meatball.......
The younger ones were very pleased to be able to order burghers made to their liking including bacon. The adults then ordered Sachetti, wood fired scallops, and gnocchi, and a very nice Chardonnay! Every dish was great!
When asked, the children gave Navona 9.5 out of 10, and that everything was so "fresh" (their words, not mine). They thought, as did we adults, that it was an excellent dining night out. Definitely headed back when we are in the area...have to try the pizzas, etc.
