If how packed a restaurant is is any indication of how good, then there's a reason this place was packed! We were in town for a concert and that afternoon called to see if we could get in (who'd think a hotel restaurant would really be all that busy on a week night?). Well, it was booked solid. The individual who answered the phone was generous enough to offer reserving the seating in the "library." We had no idea but grabbed it. Are we ever glad we did!! It was a small table at the front of the restaurant in this nook-like area. How romantic! And this despite the restaurant and bar being elbow to elbow packed! We asked the server about the mac 'n cheese since it's unusual (to us anyway) to see that listed as an appetizer. She raved and said it was award winning. Intrigued we decided we'd try that as a shared app. Are we ever glad we did! That's unlike *any* mac 'n cheese either of us had tasted! However, whatever the secret to its incredibleness is wasn't spilled. (We had been hoping to try recreating it back home in our kitchen). The next time we're ordering that as one of our entrees.
The scallops, while certainly good, weren't necessarily anything to write home about. The local free range chicken on the other hand? It's difficult to remember a chicken dish tasting so good! Another dish we certainly raved over! Sadly we were too stuffed from the appetizer and our dinners to fit in dessert. But if the first 2 courses were any indication, those would've been memorable as well.

Stayed at the Renaissance, and were beat from a week of work and travel, so decided to eat at the hotel restaurant rather than head out into Albany's downtown. What a great surprise! Nice restaurant, small and comfortable, we had a booth set into the wall with a floor to ceiling window and great view of the capital. My wife had lobster gnocci with asparagus which was fabulous. I had the caesar salad with salmon, which was quite good, as well as amazing jalapeno hushpuppies. Great service. Enjoyed it so much we came back for breakfast the next morning. Service is first rate, very friendly and attentive. Will certainly come back. An excellent selection of local beers, wines and whiskeys from New York State complements the menu.

We had the pleasure of eating here twice ,we enjoyed dinner so much that came back for lunch the next day. My wife chose the fish special a striped bass on a bed of vegetables,it was the best she ever had and I agree,I had the oysters and they equally delicious . The wines. By the glass were not skimpy by any means . Since we were being tourists we had the waffles in the style of banana fosters. We shared excellent.

For. Lunch we both had the half and half a sandwich and Julie had a salad, while I had half a grilled chilled sandwich and chicken chipotle soup. Huge portions. We could have easily one and been very happy. French fries were excellent. We would go back in a New York City minute if we lived nearby .

My wife and I stayed at the hotel and ate a late dinner and breakfast the next morning at Wellington's. The restaurant is open late and has an interesting menu. The food for dinner was good and we welcomed the variety. We had an appetizer and salads. There was a wedding party celebrating vigorously at the bar, so it was noisy. But the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. The wine by the glass list was very good. The decor in the dining room was a little plain, especially compared to the rest of the hotel. Breakfast the following morning was very good. It was a great way to begin the rest of our drive.

The WELLINGTON is located in an iconic building on State Street in Albany. Along with some friends and relatives, I have had the good fortune to lunch at the Wellington's bar bistro, The Alexander. A limited number of selections, but what there is will challenge the most risky pallete and even satisfy the most traditional taste. To top off a non-traditional grilled cheese with muenster and a delicious mystery cheese on a brioche and tomato bisque (oh so smooth and creamy), i, along with most others in my party, ordered the Bloody Mary. Hot but not uncomfortably hot is the way it comes from the bsr. You have the option to kick it up a notch or two, but most were satisfied as it came from the bar. Quick and friendly staff ready to put up with a relatively large group with multiple questions on what to order. I am looking forward to try dinner at the WELLINGTON.
