From the moment we entered up till the time we left, the service at the resort was outstanding. Everyone went out of there way to make you feel welcome. Of course you're used to that at B&B, but not always at big hotels. I think the rating should technically be 4.5 stars, but due to the excellent service I tipped it over to a 5 rather than round down to a 4.
I went to the spa on my second day there and felt instantly relaxed by the ambiance. I had my own suite complete with dressing room, bathroom, in-door and out-door shower and of course the bed where I got my body-scrub and facial. Before the treatment started, I told the front-desk lady that my left ankle had swelling. She immediately got me an ice-pack and made sure that area wasn't touched. When I came out of the spa, the director of food and beverages, Renaud, was already waiting there for me. He offered to take me to the doctor for the ankle (didn't need one) and then had the ice-pack refrozen and brought up to my room. When we entered the bar area, the waiters there even asked me how my ankle was doing and if I liked my spa treatment; everyone seemed to know me personally. I also noticed that Renaud went out of his way to speak with every single guest at the restaurant and made them feel welcome.
The property itself is tranquil. The only down side, and the reason why I would give it a 4.5, is that the place needs a bit of an upgrade. The management has kept the place clean and in good condition but you could tell it's a bit old. Also the shower's temperature would fluctuate between scalding hot and then back to normal, which got to be a little annoying.

Dear HumptyDumptyJ0urney

Thanks again for taking time to write to us about your experience at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort recently. I say again, as I'm sure we were corresponding this week over email, as I'd sent you a reply to a thank you email you'd sent Renaud. As mentioned in my mail, I was disappointed we didn't have the chance to meet in person, as I've only returned from a holiday myself and just missed you.

I'm was thrilled to read how well both of you were looked after by our team, and I've already shared your email with the team earlier this week. The spa is also a favourite place of mine in the resort and I'm happy you were able to experience it. We're also undertaking minor work in some of our rooms and pool area to keep them fresh, running an open air resort does require constant focus and we're definitely committed to doing so.

Wishing you safe travels on your wonderful extended holiday.

Best wishes

Justin

Arriving at the Chiang Rai airport, we were curious about what this resort would be like. The resort surpased our expectations. We were greeted with a complimentary drink and then taken to our upgraded hotel room. The room had an amazing view of the mountains, river, and pool. Sitting on our balcony we could see the monks playing soccer across the river. The hotel room decor closely resembles any new Le Meridien.

Pros
1. Beautiful hotel grounds. See pictures
2. Large availability of tours with great guides. We booked two tours through the hotel and each time were the only people who signed up so received private tours. The guides english skills were very good and we did not have trouble communicating. In fact, on the Golden Triangle tour, the guide adjusted the schedule so we could see the long necks at no additional cost.
3. Good selection of food in the restaurant.
4. Helpful concierge

Cons
5. The restaurants did not have enough staff to handle large groups. During our last night, a large tour group can to the hotel, this overwhelmed the pool bar staff and the Latest Recipe Staff.
6. Lattitude 19. The service was awful. When we went to redeem our free evening drink as platinum members, we waited 20 minutes for a drink when we were the only people in the bar, and then 20 minutes for the check (the bar tender would leave the restuarant, so there was no one to ask for a check). Also, the bartender would charge us for water. Which was strange as the pool bar would not charge us for water.

I would recommend this hotel as a base for the Golden Triangle.

Dear Elyse R

Thank you so much for taking the time to write and post this review…and for your kind and generous comments.

I am so delighted to know that you enjoyed our hotel grounds, tour and guide, concierge team and our varity of breakfast.

For the constructive comments, please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. We’ll make sure to have support wherever it is needed and thank you very much for sharing with us. Our aim is to provide you with the best service ever during your stay and we look forward to seeing you again and we’ll make sure to look after you with Le Meridien service this time.

At Latitude19, this is clearly unacceptable and we are investigating right now. Sincere apologies about this experience and we’ll take action accordingly. As per the water being charged at the Latitude 19 and not the pool, this is our standard to offer cold water and towels to all guests at the pool for their comfort.

Thank you again for your kind remarks. I do hope that we may welcome you again at Le Meridien Chiang Rai.

Warm regards
Chaiporn

The property looks nice the room we stayed in was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room had a good sized TV. The pool area looks very inviting though we did not use it during our stay. It is a little bit out of town but the hotel provides a free shuttle service to town as well as return provided that you book ahead each day and let them know. The food service is a little bit pricey though so we only had a couple of meals here during our stay. The points of concern are that the hot water system for the bath must be on the way out as the water came out tea coloured, not something you would like to soak in. We contacted the hotel who sent the maintance man over, who basically just tried to flush out the pipes by running it for a while. The problem did return so I guess it does need a good look at by the hotel. The shower seemed fine so we used that during our stay. This venue suffers from tour groups that come in and out and stay for one night then off again, so I believe this effects the level of service in the down periods as well as the level of housekeeping for the rooms as they are rushing to clean alot of rooms very quickly for the next group to arrive. The mini bar prices were the usual for a 5 star hotel, 110B for a singha beer which costs 31B at the shops. All in all it is a nice venue but just not running as well as it should, it's missing something that was evident at the Chiang Mai property. It could be so much better!

Room tip: River room is the best bet as the views are good. Try and organise a meal package with your room as it is pricey for meals

Excellent staff, beautiful place and fantastic service. Ask for the chiraz red wine from Thailand. Take your time to go for a walk in the city nearby and ask for their cocktails at the sunset. Do not hesitate to visit this resort if you get to Chiang Rai

We have spent 2 days in Le Meridien Chiang Rai and found it a good base for the excursions we made in this area. Our initial room was nice but had only three beds while our booking was for a family of four people. We asked for a solution to the staff, which was helpful but not very quick in solving this issue. We finally got a nice and confortable room for our family. The freshly cooked breakfast was one of the best we had during our entire holiday (and we had lot’s of very good ones!). The pool is very nice. Overall, this hotel was a good deal but not much more.

Dear Spagos

I'm disappointed to read your comments about your recent stay at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort. I am looking in to why your room was not assigned correctly initially as well as why we were slow to respond to meet your needs, please accept my apology. I am certainly pleased that we were able to get you and your family in to a comfortable room and you were able to relax and enjoy your holiday.

I definitely agree our breakfast is super, as I receive many comments of similar nature, thanks for recognising our efforts to ensuring our guests start the day well!

Thank you for taking the time to write and make me personally aware of your experience, and even though it's not pleasing to read sometimes, it is certainly invaluable.

Best wishes
