I recently had a 7-night stay in BYD Lofts in Patong. During my stay I ate either lunch or an evening meal in the restaurant, BYD Lofts Restaurant Bar and Bistro.
BYD Lofts Restaurant Bar and Bistro occupies a corner position on the ground floor of the main building in the BYD complex. The space is surrounded by manicured gardens and lily ponds; at night it is lit-up by fairly lights and light boxes.
There is a bar area that seats about 14 on three sides of the bar. The restaurant space seats about 70. Pleasant and unobtrusive jazz is played at night. There are fresh flowers throughout the room. The overall ambience of the room is relaxed and stylish, without being overly fussy and pretentious. It’s the sort of space that you feel that you can linger in.
The menu includes a good range of both Thai and western-style options. I didn’t have any trouble finding things that appealed to me during my stay at the property. Some of the meals that I had that were particularly nice included pan-fried sea bass with sautéed vegetables; pan roasted beef with green peppercorn sauce and sautéed vegetables; satay chicken with a peanut sauce and a small pot of delicious pickled vegetables; and different types of stir fried dishes.
Like all the staff in the property itself, the staff in the restaurant are really lovely. They were attentive and friendly.
Jeab is the new restaurant manager, having been at BYD for a bit over a month. She’s an absolute bubbly and warm delight, and she went out of way to acknowledge me each day and have a chat about my stay at BYD; what I’d done during the day; and if my meal had been enjoyable. If I’m honest with myself I did develop a wee bit of a crush on the lovely Jeab. It’s interesting how someone can, with a small amount of communication, make your day.
The restaurant is, of course, convenient if you are staying at the property, but it’s worth a visit if you are staying somewhere else in Patong and you want a guaranteed pleasant dining experience. There is live music on Mondays; it was an acoustic duo when I was there, and they were very good.
I hope I hid my crush on Jeab; I suspect, though, that I didn’t.
This is a great restaurant in an exceptional property. Give it go; you won’t regret it.
