Location is amazing!

Review of The Ship Motel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Jul 2024via mobile
We stayed there two nights on the lower level.
Kristina, the manager was good to deal with, Kayla was very pleasant in the phone, all the people hanging out around the office outside were also very pleasant. Kristina was there our entire visit and if you needed anything she was on it! Fresh coffee is put out on a cart in front of the office every morning and ice is available in the office. There is no housekeeping services between days (we actually don’t mind that at all) but you can get fresh linens every morning before 9am. Location is amazing! Park your car and don’t use it again! Free parking is a plus too!
We had two doubles, the rooms are tiny but we weren’t in there for anything except to sleep. We pushed the two beds together so move away from the wall and AC - worked great - then put it all back before leaving. There was a musty smell in the room and the ac is quite loud - loud enough to drown out hubbys snoring so I didn’t mind lol
The tv is small if you plan on watching it often - we didn’t.
The room is in much need of repair and updating. It’s old and tired.
The rooms are clean though and I check the mattresses wherever we go- all good and no bugs!! We cleaned up really well as there are garbage bins super handy.
You can’t beat the location, the staff and honestly for the money and as much time that we were in there, we would stay again! Check out my other reviews for places to dine!

The rooms well lighted, with plenty of plugs. The AC and frig were cold. Everything was clean and we had fresh towels every day. No coffee in the rooms but the office provided plenty of hot coffee each morning. They also had hot water and you could use their Keurig machine. Ice was plentiful and free in the office. The rooms were a bit small with two large beds but we had plenty to do outside and the rooms were quiet to sleep in. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was well maintained and the flower beds beautiful. I would highly recommend a stay at the Ship Motel.

Room tip: Parking is a bit of a problem but the office is very careful in arranging the parking and taking care of your car.

I have no idea how this place has got the score it has. As you drive up, the first impression is good. Nice flowers and a clean looking place, there it stopped for me.
The greeting might as well have been a shrug of the shoulders, it felt like one. The room was small and cluttered with furniture, that made what little space was available, unusable. We were greeted with the normal post Covid sign ‘To protect YOU, there will be no housekeeping’, when is this limp excuse going to stop.
There is no tea or coffee in the room, it is downstairs by the office. In our case at the bottom of the very steep and dangerous stairs (especially when carrying a suit case). This was the place everyone congregated to drink coffee, talk and smoke. If you are upstairs in the first 2 or 3 rooms, be prepared to be kept awake or woken by either inconsiderate guests or even worse cleaners (or possibly manager) waiting to do the rooms. They start congregating, smoking, drinking coffee and chatting about 6am.
A good point is the position of the motel in the middle of town, but it sorely needs a serious look at customer care or even an acknowledgment there are any guests there at all

Room tip: Avoid the first 4 rooms upstairs and possibly downstairs.

The good:
The room was clean, shower, toilet, sink, floors, bedding all clean. Lots of towels and they put new ones outside your door every morning. The shower was great with great pressure Right in the heart of A-bay so we did not have to drive anywhere all weekend. 3-5 min walk to boat tour depending on how fast you walk.

The bad:
Very cozy/intimate (TINY) room like being in a pop up camper. No shot the rooms are updated as advertised. A new floor is not "remodeled" or "updated", that is called crap you have to do lol. Everything in the room is old/outdated. So unless they found new old stock, nothing besides floor is new. No coffee in room but they do put a cart out by the office, no breakfeast. The tv is kinda small and reception sucks.

The ugly,
The room stunk once we turned on the a/c ( we took air vent clips out of truck to put in ac unit lol) they need to hire a company to clean the units they are gross. The bed is absolutly horrible. If you are over 25 and have any kind of body issues you are gonna be hating life! Woke up at 5am to pee and wife said when do you wanna leave? I said 20min? We where gone by 7am. Kinda noisy due to poor insulation and there are bars with in a baseball throw of the motel. That being said, if your not a drunkerd or come from a family of drunks, the other guests may just annoy the pi$$ out of you

In closing, 21 and looking for a place to stumble back to?? Great place cause you wont know the bed sucks cuz chances are you'll be on the bathroom floor barking at the porcelain god. Looking to spend the day and stay 1 night? Its a great place. Looking to stay more than 1 night??? Pay for parking and sleep in your car.

I rarely write a poor review and hesitate to write this one because it was a place for us to stay while visiting the amazing Thousand Islands on what we were to discover was a very over crowded, loud, and a bit unruly Pirates Week. The check in office seemed very concerned about mask wearing in their little cramped space which I get - but there were CROWDS of people on the sidewalk, upper story balcony and the parking lot with corn hole games, tables of food, coolers, etc. There was no concern for the people checking in, carry their luggage to their rooms, returning in the evening for sleeping. If this motel was recently updated they must have skipped the room we stayed in. NO SMOKING signs everywhere but there was the odor of cigarette smoke everywhere - even in the small check in office. The wifi signal was so poor that it was impossible to do anything on a mobile device. One positive comment - The location is good. Sorry Ship Motel but you need to get Ship Shape.
