A friend and I booked this hotel through thomas cook last February. On arrival the staff were friendly and we recieved a room far away from the reception which we had requested. The room was spacious, clean however it did not smell as good as most hotel rooms. The food here was reasonably impressive taste wise for the price and the selelction was ok. The restuarant staff are also flexible and would make my omelette to my requirments including cheese which added to the selection. We found the friendliest/most helpfull member of the staff was in the restaurant called Fued (or King Fued as we call him).

I would not stay here again as there wasnt much to do for young people in the hotel or area however for a quiet and well priced week, it would suit a lot of people.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have a view of the Mediterranean

Had a really good holiday despite the attack and subsequent re-repatriation as a result of the travel advice, we were coming home anyway but others had their breaks cut short
The hotel and grounds are really lovely, as Debbie and Dave mentioned it does require a lot of work and upkeep which doesn't seem to be a priority for the Tunisian owners. The pool area is lovely and well kept with the use of public beaches at either side which are a little on the minging side but you can out up with that.
We loved the quirky place, its dripping taps and shabby chic appearance though that was the intention, a case of neglect has crept in and rooted itself within the owners.
Staff were lovely on the whole, some charmed and others smarmed their way around. The genuine ones are truly that though and the service though a little slower is exclelent.
Special mention to the breakfast guys and Hassen at the pool bar.
The food whilst repetitive at times was ok and at times lovely. It's mostly fresh and the salads were excellent. The hot good wasn't quite up there with the cold but good enough. Spiced beef pie was a definite favourite with me.
The food at the pool cafe was freshly cooked and to a good standard, obviously more expensive than outside but still handy if you are sunning it rather than getting out.
We didn't see it hear any entertainment other than the other guests which provided us and Debbie and Dave with a good laugh through out.
I have to say the heavy set manager was down right rude to the staff at times during a diffcult time for them all and could have been more professional.
It's sad to be leaving mostly because now the travel advice has changed regards Tunisia the hard working staff at this hotel will be out of work or on part wages. I wish the people of Tunisia well during what it going to be a very difficult time for them. I just hope that things change and other people get to enjoy this slightly crazy But charming country.

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel and feel conflicted. We have visited Tunisia many times and have seen many hotels which are much the same....this hotel was different...I read a review referring to the El Hana as a "grand old lady" and I totally agree....this is a lovely grand building that has been beautifully put together with some beautiful redeeming features and loads of charm.... but has now lost it's sheen.

The fantastic staff are what keep it going but I am afraid they are fighting a losing battle. It has so much more to offer but no one appears to be doing anything with it. The grounds including the pool area are lovely maintained but it appears to stop there. This hotel could be a little gem if someone could be bothered to work on it.

The rooms were very much all the same, large and airy with beautiful features that just need some tender loving care, and possibly a more accessible bath just for those of us with short legs!!!!!!

Although the first week we thought the food was actually pretty good, spending the whole second week with a really bad tummy changed our minds a little, although it might have nothing to do with the hotel food. Again the staff were brilliant with their help.

Although the beach was small and a little unkempt it was well worth a visit or two for the lovely sand and sea that was like a warm bath.

We would rate the original "grand old lady" high.....we would rate the lack of making the best use of the "grand old lady" poor.....we would rate the staff as excellent....we would rate the food as poor......that now explains our conflict.

Would we return to this hotel?.....probably not but only because of the suspicion regarding the stomach upset. Would we return to the area?....most definitely...we love Tunisia and wish the people of Tunisia all the very best.

Will not be returning to this hotel .Food was dreadful, and I am not a fussy eater, and well used to Tunisia and it's food , this was the worst selection I have ever had, even for breakfast the choice was poor. The bathroom as a serious issue, and a dangerous one , toilet leaked water every time you flushed , the pipes need replacing .as for WiFi , forget it , it was only available in the reception area, Entertainment was 1 night in 6 that we spent there and that was for possibly 2 hrs 9-11 . If you want quiet, thats OK , but you need a bit of life , forget this hotel

Room Tip: High floors

Lets get the bad bit out of the way first. We were there at the time of the beach attack. It was an awful time for us, i cant begin to imagine what the people who were at the affected hotel went through. What I can tell you is that the Tunisian staff at our hotel were amazing, kept us informed, locked down the hotel, and did everything possible to make us feel safe, well done the staff and management at the Caruso.

The hotel itself, we loved it. The grounds are immaculate, as is the pool area, all staff from reception to the waiters to the cleaners were fabulous. The food was good and plentiful, beer was always cold. The rooms are a little tired, a few of the fixtures and fittings could do with updating, but the bedding and towels were clean and changed daily.

We will go back, when I dont know.

Good luck to all the Tunisian people.
