This jagged 4,000+ foot high limestone mountain rears out of the plain south of Al Ain, and is the second highest in the UAE. Stark, sere, its monochromatically grey/beige crags are home to animals such as the rock hyrax, red foxes and feral cats. But there is not much to see as the road twists and turns its way to the top.

Our tour bus was unable to manage the road, so our group had to transfer to 4WD vehicles in order to reach our overnight destination, the Mercure Hotel. The hotel was very nice, the drive only so-so.

Jabal Hafeet can be seen from Al Ain city and the bendy road is lit up at night. We timed our arrival for the sunset and it was perfect. Great views all around and good photo opportunities. We did not plan to eat or drink, but there is a basic restaurant (not to the same standard you might have been made used to in the newly built malls)

its tarmac quality road laid onto a mountain top. strongly recommended for a drive and choose a great spot for a picnic or a barbeque. unless its the winter please try to do a early evening thing as in the day the sun is too strong. many parking slots to halt and take in the view, must do while in al ain.
