Enter past the lovely tiled walls of the portal, past the minarets and under the ribbed, azure dome to find the resting place of Tamerlane and others. The inside is richly decorated but the most interesting thing is the massive piece of jade.

Uzbekistan is a great country and the best towns are: Samarakind, Buhkara, Tashkent. I visited the Gur Emir museum and it was spectacular

I think Timur's tomb sums up the magnificent and proud history of Samarkand. While the Registon is very impressive, you can really appreciate the history of the place here; no doubt because it's the resting place of Timur - the one time great leader.

One of the most ruthless invaders in the history of mankind and responsible for deaths of more than 17 million people but considered a hero in Uzbekistan. The first inscription is written on the tombstone, and says " When i rise from the dead, the world shall tremble "
2nd one is located inside the tomb, and says : Whosoever disturbs my tomb will unleash an invader more terrible than I "
Two days after the soviets opened the tomb, Hitler invaded Russia.
