Good sized twin rooms

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Dec 2012
We stayed two nights in this hotel after an overnight flight from Singapore to NGO. Took the Nohi Bus to Takayama at Meitetsu Bus Center in Nagoya.
Checked in on a Wednesday. It was low season when we visited and hotel seems fairly empty.
We were checked in at 1.30pm in the afternoon upon arrival much to our relief after that overnight flight and long bus ride. I was quite surprised because Japanese hotels are strict with their checkin time, usually at 3pm.

The walk from Takayama bus station to the hotel was supposed to be 5mins but we took 10-15mins dragging out cases on the snowy, icy sidewalks. It was wet and slippery and we had to lift our cases over puddles of melted snow on some stretches.
I expect the 5mins walking distance would apply on a sunny day but not in snowy conditions.

We were given a twin room on the East building, supposedly renovated in 2010.
Room given was a good size at 23 sq meters with ample space for our two large 28inch suitcases.
Basic amenities in the bathroom includes shampoo, conditioner and foam bath. Toothbrushes, combs and even makeup remover wipes were provided.
Internet connection by LAN cable but we had our airport express to convert to wifi for our apple devices.

Our plan includes breakfast and dinner on both days.
Breakfasts was taken at the French Bonjour restaurant with a selection of Japanese and Western breakfast.
On our first evening, we chose to have dinner at the Japanese restaurant. We had a variety of small dishes with the main course being sukiyaki hida beef.
On the second evening, we chose to have dinner at the French restaurant and this consists of a starter, soup, salad and a main course of hida beef cooked in two ways, steak and stew beef.
We finished off the meal with dessert and coffee or tea.
We much prefer the French dinner especially the Hida beef stew.
Very flavorful and so tender that you don't even need a knife to cut.

They have two onsen in this hotel, one located on the 9th floor and one in the basement.
The one on the 9th floor had more baths to choose from compared to the one bath in the basement.
Needless to say, we use the onsen on the ninth floor more often than the one in the basement over our two days stay.

Very good service from hotel personnel, friendly and polite and most of the staff can speak a little English. May stay again but definitely not in winter. Don't relish the idea of dragging our luggages over the snowy sidewalk again.

Stayed one night in November 2012. The room was big with a good-sized bathroom. There are two spas, one in the basement, the other on the 9th floor. The latter has three outdoor and two indoor pools - very invigorating, especially when they were not crowded in the evening.

There were two separate restaurants for breakfast - one for Japanese food, the other western food. We went to the Japanese restaurant. The food was very good and the service superb. Dinner was also very good - kaiseki-style - lots of small dishes eaten with white rice and miso soup - delicious and plentiful.

This hotel is very comfortable and the food here was surely good. Among the better in the hotel dinners we ate. The breakfast too was complete. The part I like best about this hotel is it is near the river market. I was up early that morning and when for a wonderful stroll.

We spent 3 nights at this large hotel. The location was perfect--within walking distance of most of the Takayama sites and the JR station as well. It seemed to cater to large groups and breakfast was a little crowded and difficult. The lobby area was very attractive and had a Takayama Festival float on display. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable with a large windows to enjoy the view. The gift shop was great.

Very pleasant hotel, but I suppose it was a businessman's type hotel really. Rooms were good and quiet, and with a superb view, the breakfast was good too. All in all, nothing special, but a very convenient place to stay in a place that is really worth visiting. We ate out on the two nights we were there so we didn't get to try the Chinese restaurant in the hotel... several others on our tour thought it was great and was good value.

Although expensive for us, the room was very roomy and had a view of the mountains. The western breakfast buffet is the best deal in Asia. The hotel's Chinese restaurant is also has great food and is reasonable. Almost every attraction in Takayama is within a 20 min. walk and the Hid Folk Village is accessible by an easy to navigate bus.

Room tip: Book your room at least a year in advance
