Stayed in a riverside king room. The atmosphere is relaxed and not as overdone as many Japanese hotels, yet it has a luxurious feel.
A 15 minute walk (up the stairs) will take you to Gora with some nice restaurant options (be sure to try the Gora Brewery and Grill). Just across the river is the starting point of some great hiking trails. Beds are a bit hard but the rest of the room is excellent. Would go to this hotel again.

Dear "Josgreet1",

We appreciate you staying with us at the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. It's great that you managed to have a relaxing time with us during your stay. Well done on walking up to Gora train station, you are fitter than me! There are a few good hiking trails around the hotel to experience and as the weather is warming up a little, great time to do so.

Hope you do come and visit us again!

Warm Regards

Highly recommend the Indigo Gora hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and quiet, it was easy to sleep well. The onsen in the room was an excellent amenity. The steak restaurant was delicious with a good wine selection

Dear “GroovyM”,

Thanks for your feedback about the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. All of the guest rooms in the hotel have their own private onsen. After a soaking in the natural minerals of the onsen water, I am sure that you had an excellent night sleep. The food and beverage team were extremely happy to hear your review when we read it in the morning briefing. We use Ashigara beef, or Shoshu beef, both from Kanazawa and we also have our own dry age cabinet, where we do 30 day dry aged beef. Our sommelier is looking into the wine selection now and happy that you could find something to your liking.

Hope to welcome you back to Hakone in the near future.

Warm Regards

Hotel Indigo was recommended to us by a co-worker. She raved about how much she enjoy her stay, so we decided to visit for our Anniversary. We loved everything about this hotel from check in to check out, everything was amazing. The hotel staff always made us feel welcome, by greeting us (by name most of the time) whenever we were out and about in the hotel. Hannah checked us in. She was nice and provided us with information about the area.

We had the breakfast included in our stay. The restaurant manager Koji-san was awesome. While not a picky eater, I do like my eggs cooked a certain way...lol.. On the first day of breakfast, my eggs were not cooked to my liking. When my plate was taken, Koji-san noticed that I did not eat my eggs. He immediately came to our table and inquired about the eggs. I told him that they were too soft for me. He apologized and asked if I had enough to eat and said that he would like to try again the next morning. I thought this was such a kind gesture. For the next 4 days, my eggs were cooked exactly how I like them.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It is a bit pricey, but the chef is very good. The salmon and asparagus were my favorites.

Our anniversary was on the 22nd and we received a call from the front desk asking if they could bring us a gift for our anniversary. They brought us an assortment of sweet treats, which we enjoyed with a cup of tea. Very sweet.

Our room was spacious, clean with the perfect temperature. The television was the largest that I have seen a Japanese hotel. Our room was on the riverside with a private outdoor onsen. While relaxing in the onsen, you can hear the calming sounds of the river. There is also a foot soak in the garden area. it was a bit to cold outside for me, so I didn't get to enjoy it on this stay.

The hotel was cleaned thoroughly and safety precautions were taken. All of staff wore masks and for breakfast, we were provided with gloves to get continental items from the buffet. All tables were wiped down immediately after a party left and were socially distanced.

The hotel is in close proximity to just about everything. During our 5 day stay, we visited The Open Air Museum, the Venetian Glass Garden, Gora Park, and The Red Gate of Peace.

We will definitely be returning and look forward to our next stay in the Spring.

Dear “868shennaa”,

Congratulation on your anniversary and thank you for spending it with us at the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. The team remember you, it’s very rare that anyone stays for 5 nights. It’s great that we could help to make your anniversary a memorable one. The feedback about our team is much appreciated, we have been working hard to improve service levels and reading your comments tells us we are heading in the right direction.

We actually discussed in the morning operational meeting about the eggs being a little soft for your first night. It’s great that we could ensure you got your eggs the way you liked them for the rest of your stay. Happy that you enjoyed the food at the restaurant, our chefs have been working hard on food quality, the wood fire grilled asparagus has a light miso glaze and finished off with bonito flakes, while the salmon is also cooked on the wood fire grill giving it a light smoked flavor.

The guest rooms all have a private onsen bath, with the riverside room bathtub on the balcony. The TV is new and can be connected to Netflix, amazon prime etc. so that you can still watch the shows you like, though I have to admit, the ability to view shows depends on your location, so if you have a US Netflix account, some of the shows can’t be viewed in Japan. The hotel also has two more onsen areas, the foot soaking onsen and as you rightly pointed out, a little cold in Winter. There is also an indoor pool onsen. This indoor onsen requires a swim wear (that the hotel has available), so is not what you would call a traditional bath house type onsen.

With the world as it is at the moment, we make sure to take precautions for our guests and also our staff. All guests are required to wear a mask at the restaurant and we also provide plastic gloves for use at the buffet area. As part of the IHG group we have strict policies as to cleanliness all throughout the hotel.

The surrounding neighborhood as a lot to offer and sounds like you managed to see quite a range of things in Hakone.

We look forward to your next visit in Spring

Warm Regards

A stunning hotel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The tone is set as soon as you walk through the front door for a relaxed and enjoyable stay. The staff are excellent, the food divine and plentiful! The wood grill is amazing especially for the steaks. The rooms are warm and cozy with the private outdoor onsen a blessing. Looking forward to the next time. Thank you!

We were really excited to be staying at Hotel Indigo, knowing that we would be on the first to do so. We weren't let down. The fitout of the hotel is stunningly beautiful - Oriental/Japanese style meets Scandinavian simplicity. Just wow!

From Odawara the shuttle bus takes you directly to the hotel. Upon arrival we were well looked after. The service is not fussy. Yes, some of the staff were still training and not fully up to speed, but to be honest that's fine. It's a new hotel after all.

We dined in the restaurant on both evenings and really enjoyed the food (some pics below). The chef and hotel manager even took the time to see that we were enjoying the food which was a nice touch.

I can't believe I haven't mentioned the onsen! You have a choice of private bath in the room (by the way - they ARE completely private if you put the blind down unlike some idiots that write on here), or the public onsen. By "public" though its more like a Western spa. The hotel asks that guests wear swimwear, which allayed some of our concerns.

The hotel is on the pricey side, and probably more suited to shorter stays as a "treat". However, its definitely worth a look for anyone looking for a relaxing break in Japan.

Dear “tminnikin”,

Thank you for your great comments about the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. The hotel has only been open for a short while and you are one of the first to experience our hotel! We are happy that you liked the design. The Indigo brand ties in with the neighbourhood, with no two hotels being alike.

The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service from the bullet train side of the Odawara station. The bus can sometimes be obscured by bigger buses, so you will need to keep an eye out. As you have pointed out, we are still all in training mode and thank you for your understanding on this.

Your feedback about the Riverside Kitchen & Bar is great and happy that the meals were so good, you ate both nights. We had a look at the pictures and glad that you enjoyed everything. We use mostly local ingredients and the grill gives it an added extra flavour. Happy that you also enjoyed our breakfast selection, we get good comments about the eggs benedict and all of the pastries.

The hotel has a public onsen located on the first floor that is mixed use. As it’s mixed use, we have swim wear available and “Fashion tattoos” are allowed, which is still quite rare in Japan. There is an LED screen and relaxing music playing that helps you to relax and unwind in the calming onsen waters. All guest rooms also have their own private onsen, yes, and remember to close the blinds, also to wind up the blinds after you finish otherwise the wind could catch the blinds making a clanging noise.

So happy that you enjoyed your stay with us here at the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora.

Best Regards
