We left from Osaka to Nara due to the 15m Buddha. We were not disappointed. Not only is the temple where the Buddha is housed amazing construction but the spirituality and history of the place is breathtaking. To make the day even better the local dear in the grounds are very friendly & cute. You can buy food for only 150 yen, i feel this is cheap.. You will need to shel out 500yen to see the Buddha but its worth it. There are many walks around the grounds that took up most of our day. I would recommend.

This is a beautiful new building, with an interesting earthquake protection system. It contains a good collection of Buddhist art, although not as good as the one at Kofukuji.

Everytime I come back to Nara, I always go to Todaiji Temple because, also if I already know how big and wonderful is the big buddha (daibutsu), it always let me with no words. Then there is the park around, and you can also feed the rendeers outside the temple. A really good trip

This little museum is on your right hand side coming out of the south gate from Todaiji. Given the option of 500yen for Todaiji or 800yen combo to include this museum, you're better off saving the time to head elsewhere. Although home to much of cultural significance, there's nothing you'll see here that's new vs. the Nara museum.

When you pay to go into the temple, you can pay an extra 300 yen to get into the cultural center. It has a lot of beautiful historical statues, masks, artifacts, and texts. All text is in Japanese, but they do offer English audio commentary for an extra fee (not sure how much). If you are interested in viewing artifacts from the past 1500 or so years, it's well worth the money.
