This is where to go to catch a ferry to the various islands in the Seto Inland Sea. The staff here is very helpful and speaks competent English. Also a good place to watch the sea view and sunset.

It is a good place to see the sun set. Besides, there were speed-boats and ferries to those nearby islands.
Besides being the gateway to the several islands reachable by ferry, the harbor and its pier are nice places to walk around, clean and safe.
I was here mostly for the ferry rides to the islands. Since I am here for the Setouchi Triennale, there were a lot of staff speaking English, Japanese and Chinese that are helping out. Even without the staff, the guidance of where the ferries go are clear. I didn't particular walk the stretch, but I could imagine it being a comfortable one.
If you are looking for any sightseeing, the port should be a great view for sunsets and also the Takamatsu Castle stands right next to the port.
Wonderful walk out along the pier - a good 800 metres into the sea. Nice to see people fishing and ferries coming in, with great scenery and a rarity in Japan - totally free!
