had a bit of problem finding this place as it's not on waze / maps..located behind asia hotel (the entrance is a small road wedged between asia hotel & police station in kuah..a more noticeable landmark would be the baron hotel on left (if you are coming ..after calling the owner for the direction, we reached just in time for lunch..it was already quite full by the time we got there..it's actually a stall on a piece of cemented land (with roof & fan - good ventilation)..

the menu :
a) laksa (noodle in spicy & sour fish broth) - it was good, the sourness was right on
b) curry : nice, but i find it a bit sweet for my liking
c) rojak (fruit salad) : good as dessert after heavy meal
d) sotong kangkung (squid with spinach in prawn sauce) : crunchy (both vege & squid) & tasty
e) ice kacang (shaved ice) : it was ok..i prefer palm syrup to rose syrup
f) hokkien noodle (noodle with dark soy sauce) : no comment as we skipped this

we enjoyed the food & it was cheap, cost us RM13 for all the food we had.. can't get good & cheap food like this in the cities

definitely recommended to give it a try if you are in Kuah on Friday & Saturday around lunch time..

It was only open on Fridays and Saturdays during this period. It may be good by Langkawi standards but honestly I do find it a little tame compared to those you would find elsewhere in Malaysia especially Penang. Perhaps it is difficult to find good Malaysian Chinese food in Langkawi. To be fair, I have not tried every dish offered. The "sotong kangkung" was good but totally unimpressed with the laksa which should have more fish in the broth.

The shop is not easy to find. You have to enter between Asia Hotel and the traffic police HQ.

Whenever visiting a new place, I would usually let my taste buds do all the exploration. Trying out local food is always the best way to get to know a place, and in Langkawi, this place does it best for me.

Finding the location might be tricky as it is hidden from the main road, but it is worth all the trouble though. The stall is located downtown in Kuah, right behind Hotel Asia (there's a small lane of entrance in between Hotel Asia and the local Traffic Police station). You'll see an open aired canteen like concept stall. Very local-like and well, airy. Or, simply call the owner Mr. Tan for directions (mobile no. listed on the page) as he is very friendly and helpful.

The place is always swarmed with locals, and of late, tourists too, as the food is both cheap and delicious. They serve quite a range of delicacies and just to list a few of my favorites: curry noodle, asam laksa (spicy & sour noodle soup), ais kacang (shaved ice with condensed milk, red beans & condiments) and boiled cuttlefish & spinach with rojak (a special type of local sauce). Price ranges from RM3 to RM5 the most, if you have any add-ons.

Like I said, cheap and tasty. No wonder it is always full and before 5pm, almost all items are sold out. In addition, the food served is also Halal.

Previously, it was a pity that they only open on Fridays. However, due to increasingly popular demands, nowadays they are open from Fridays til Mondays from 11am to 5pm. Good news to the patrons and visitors as not all of us could make it on Fridays.

To sum it all up, this is definitely the place to go to for a taste of Langkawi's local food. Simply the best.
