“The most relaxing place in Malaysia”
Reviewed 22 December 2010

I really love this place. ultimately clean because the owner are very particular on cleanliness. Very friendly host who loves to chat and talk about their work at the lodge. They are very environment concience and will be able to tell you how best to conserve our mother earth. I also went for roadbiking and there are hardly any cars there.
And there are loads of mountain trail for us to trek with the famous Rafflesia flower
They are located in at a very cool place away from even the busy streets of Cameron Highland. Away from all busy life so we can focus on relaxing.
The only thing I regret is that I didnt stay long enough
I am already planning for another trip there :)

I stayed over on 2 occasions. The first time was just pure bliss because I got to vegetate and relax just like the beautiful plants around me. The permaculture garden is awesome - make sure you check out the prettiest herb spiral in all of Malaysia!

Rooms are minimalist cool – I adore the nifty little lamp they provide for walking to the loo at night and the thoughtful little lamps along the pathway so you don't stumble over in a half-awake daze.

Service is par excellence. The hosts are very accommodating and lovely. And if you love nature, you're right in it! Thoughtful touches like mosquito curtains in the open dining room ensures you get to feast on both the delicious food and inspiring surroundings without getting feasted on by mozzies.

The second time I stayed over was to join the permablitz - which is a cool way to exercise and work on their ambitious Children's Permaculture Garden project.

Now that you've read my rave review, please don't crowd the place because I want to go back! :)

We stayed overnight at Moonriver Lodge and it was very pleasant. As the farm is a work in progress, a short stay in this part of the Malaysian highlands was perfect. Facilities are basic and functional, including a BBQ setup, with a fantastic kitchen garden full of herbs, vegetables and fruits depending on whatever's growing at that time. You can harvest it to cook your meals if you're staying there. We did the Rafflesia Trek on another weekend which was a great highlight. Location's very nice with another special community-building project that the owners have begun...~2 acre Children's Garden using natural available materials and adopting some permaculture concepts. Check out their website for more info.

We stayed for two nights with our three young kids (9,6 and 4). The most important thing to know is that this is a place with a difference. Don't think hotel, think posh camping/back to nature/real relaxation.
It is very clean, very comfortable and very basic and isn't trying to be anything else. The owners are delightful, friendly and helpful (great recommendations of where to go and what to see) and the food is lovely - straight from garden to the table - you can even pick it yourself (our kids loved picking fruit and vegetables and we all had fun eating freshly picked sweetcorn in the corn patch!). There is nothing around but flowers, forest, birds and nature and of course Cameron Highlands is a short drive away - I am SO glad we stayed at Moon River and not anywhere in Cameron Highlands, though if you like en-suite bathrooms and watching TV in bed this might not be the place for you.
You can go on several treks and we all enjoyed going up the little stream/waterfall - borrow the water boots! Very muddy and great fun.
The owners give great tips on what to bring but here are mine: earplugs, mosquito repellant, a good book (they have a small library though), warm clothes, some slippers to wear indoors and a sense of adventure. Oh and some wine to drink by starlight while lying in the hammocks.:)
We will definitely be going back and the kids can't wait to go and play with the rabbits, kitten and see the chickens again - it felt like a great escape from everyday life and very wholesome.

A river flows through the property feeding permaculture gardens with chickens, fowls, turkeys, vermiculture, compost bins. A natural rock pool is under construction together with a permaculture children's playground. The food is plucked from the garden and cooked in the wonderful open kitchen. Our kids loved the cool mountain air. Perfect temperature (20 + degrees in the day and 18 or 19 degrees C at night). Beds were basic but cosy. We all slept soundly to the symphony of the forest and the lullaby of the river. Treks to see the Rafflesia flowers and to the waterfall is worth trying. The best thing though is to sit under a canopy of stars with a hot drink or a glass of single malt. I was rewarded with a bright meteorite streaking through the sky lighting up the place for a fleeting moment. Magical! Your stress and troubles will melt away. This is a working farm and the hosts are passionate and they love the earth. You will be infected by their charm. If you are in Cameron Highlands, make a trip here. It is different, beautiful...
