Over the last weekend, my husband and I stayed at the Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu for 5 nights. It was one of the best experiences of an SPG hotel we have had these last few years.

A great start to our stay came from Mr Rodney O'Brien (Le Meridien Experience Specialist). He emailed my husband soon after we made our reservation and responded when we asked some questions in the email. Upon arrival, checking in was a breeze with Diana and Anson who were polite and welcoming. Awaiting in our room was a hand-written note (in such a neat and beautiful handwriting) from Mr Rodney himself with complimentary bottled water and some crackers and nuts - what an amazing personal touch from a man who has so much passion and energy.

The facilities within the hotel - from inside the room, to the swimming pool to the breakfast/dinner buffet, the evening lounge, the gym etc ... though there are some upgrading works ongoing in the hotel, nothing was compromised and we had a fantastic time. The housekeeping did a fabulous job every day which allowed us to return to a well cleaned up room with all amenities replenished to the dot. The sea view from the room, accompanied by the beautiful sunset every evening truly enhanced the joy of our holiday.

Ms Fadilah who was there at the lounge each evening has a pleasant and polite character and she certainly adds value to the whole experience. Mr Anson with his helpful and smiley nature is also another great member of Mr Rodney's team. On the whole, Mr Rodney himself is an enthusiastic, bubbly and hands-on team leader who is able to bring out the best passion in himself as well as of those who work alongside him. Thank you for the memorable experience at this Le Meridien Hotel.

Location - It is a short 10-min taxi ride from the Airport and all you need to do is to pay a fixed price of MYR30 at the taxi counter after you exit the arrival hall, go to the taxi queue and off ... you are on your way. Le Meridien is located in the City Centre with many shops and popular restaurants all within walking distances. We took 10-min strolls for yummy food at the famous Hua Hing Seafood Restaurant, the popular Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh and Hard Rock Cafe; shopped in the many Sabah Produce souvenir shops across the street and traveled to sights further away by hopping into a taxi. Super convenient location (eat, shop, relax, get a massage) especially for adults without children. Even those with children, the swimming pool area at Level 2 is a great place for the children to hang around and the breakfast buffet has a wide variety of food, catering to the young and old, and from all around the world.

We would most certainly stay at Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu Hotel again if we should visit KK again for my husband's advanced diving course in the future.

For a first time visitor I wanted a place that was central and within easy walking distance nce to the markets etc. The hotel met this need plus much more. It is located right next to the food markets and the sea. Hidden behind a large seafood hall is the promenade where there are multi cafes that serve a fantastic range of food. We ate at the Indonesian restaurant and the food was fresh, tasty and delicious. Service was excellent.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and courteous, the room had a very comfortable king sized bed and there was plenty of room to move about. Bottled water was replenished everyday.

Meals were excellent. We stayed during Ramadan and it was fascinating to see the local people eat in the hotel after sunset. You would need to book during this time or be prepared to eat after 8:00pm when there are tables available. The sweets are very different from what can be found in Australia and are “to die for.”! It was great to try a range of them.

There is a large pool and gym on level 2. A Business Centre is located on the ground floor.

Two tours that we did required us to be out before breakfast. Upon request the hotel had them prepared and waiting for us to pick up in paper carry bags as we left. I would stay here again without a doubt.
Tip..next time I would ask for a view of the harbour. We had a room overlooking the city which was good to get our bearings, but a view of the harbour cannot be faulted.

If you're looking for a central location in Kota Kinabalu this is the place for you! The hotel is located across the road from local food markets and "the waterfront" with dining options galore. The hotel is clean, nicely decorated and spacious. Breakfast was fantastic with a huge array of options. It is important to note that this isn't a boutique hotel - it is extremely large and I can only imagine how busy it must get in peak season. We visited during Ramadan and things were fairly quiet. I would definitely stay again next time we come to KK.
