Beautiful beach, lovely hotel pools. Enjoyed the different “culture evenings” at buffet restaurant. Room was kept clean, drinking water replaced daily. Enjoyed working our way through the mocktails and cocktails menu. Due to rough seas, couldn’t scuba dive - but definitely on the list for next time. Coral reef is beautiful.

This hotel is grossly mis-managed. The day we checked in, we went to the restaurant for dinner & we were told there is only Indian Buffet. There were other restaurants but they told that we need to make reservations 24hrs prior, which is the most ridiculous expectations. There was no a-la-carte. Finally, had to order room service.
Internet / WiFi was too pathetic - speed as well as disruptions in connectivity.
There were too many doves & sparrows in restaurant, while having breakfast creating nuisance.
One night, we were sleeping and around 9:30PM, our door is opened by the hotel staff claiming that they were checking if we were comfortable. Again, cannot imagine such things.
Breakfast starts only at 7:30AM. We asked if there was food in any other restaurant & were told that there was one place but we needed to do 24hrs advance reservation. In a holiday place, who would want to do 24hrs advance reservations.
The last day, there was no hot water coming in the taps.
Having travelled the World over, this was my worst experiences.

We stayed here at the end of August for our honeymoon. There were lots of really nice things about the hotel: the sugar cane theme, staff were mostly friendly and attentive, our room was nice (junior suite with jacuzzi), lots of food choices at lunch and dinner, and a beautiful location. If you are sunbathing on the beach, staff will come from the bar nearby to take and deliver your drinks order. There is a gym and a spa (very good massages, usual UK prices), and bikes available to hire (not necessarily the best quality but ok). Reception staff are helpful and knowledgeable - make sure you have a print out of your booking though as they don't seem able to search you on the system (we had to forward them an email from our phone upon arrival after 16 hours of travelling). The hotel is also located a 20 minute walk from Belle Mare which is nice to visit for souvenirs etc. The Virgin Holidays Rep (and others from what we saw) are well accommodated here and various organise trips around the island which we'd highly recommend.

However. The noise from evening entertainment is so loud that it can be heard throughout the hotel until it finishes at 11pm, so if you want to sleep before then it's unlikely to happen.

Food is plentiful and varied (unless you have kids in which case it's literally just pizza or pasta), but lacks flavour. Even the food at the a la carte restaurants was bland (with the exception of the Beef Rendang at the Asian themed one). We paid for the Creole BBQ evening which sadly was a huge waste of money. The BBQ'd meat and fish was overcooked and dry, and the other dishes available were exactly the same as those on offer in the main buffet. There was no atmosphere despite the efforts of the creole band and dancer so I'd advise giving that whole experience a miss. Food was quite disappointing.

We saw an advert for a candlelit dinner in the beach which seemed like a great idea until we saw a couple having one. As nicely as the table was laid with fairy lights surrounding it, it was positioned adjacent to the poolside bar next to the main path to the beach so lacked privacy. Being next to racks of kayaks also made it less than romantic.

There was a range of drinks available for all inclusive guests, but the alcohol was poor quality with no distinguishable taste.

The towel system at the boat house is a bit of a joke. We weren't fully briefed on how it worked, so when we arrived on the beach at 1pm on our first day, we were sent to reception (the opposite side of the complex) to get our towels. This happened on a second occasion too, and the towel we were given by reception was white, basically a room towel that had been relegated due to stains that wouldn't come out. When we tried to return that one to the boat house, we were sternly accused of taking it from our room by the lady behind the counter. Being made to feel like a low key criminal by a hotel employee over a towel is quite ridiculous, so this whole system needs to be looked at and improved to prevent it happening again.

The gym had basic equipment and was air conditioned, however staff kept coming and going (there's a staff room in there I think) and don't close the doors after them making the air con ineffective. The hotel gym is the only place I was bitten by an insect during our stay.

We only stayed here for 7 nights. Initially we thought we'd want to be there for longer but were happy to leave after a week. Other people rave about the hotel and feel the need for two weeks here, but for us there wasn't enough to do (despite going in day trips and using the kayaks), and not enough quality to feel like we were missing out.

Overall for a honeymoon we wouldn't advise coming here - spend a bit more and go for real quality. Maratim Crystals has the potential to be excellent, but needs a bit more investment and attention to detail to bring up to the 4* we were told it was.

Nice setting of the hotel & very friendly, but rather unprofessional staff. Huge problem with understaffing, e.g. plates during meals at main restaurant stood for a long time on the tables, drinks could not be ordered bc simply nobody was around (not the individual waiter's fault, as they workd hard, but just too few people).

Generally very uncosy, i.e. why no candles in the main bar. Canteen-like atmosphere in the main restaurant.

Rooms and public areas need maintenance and upgrading. Rooms (we had a family deluxe) missing e.g. bedside lamps and our friends had no hot water for half of their stay. But at least they had bedside-lamps.

Supposed to be family friendly but e.g. only pasta and tomato sauce for children every evening (out of 10 days we had one evening with a different option for children). Overall the food is a let-down compared to similar hotels. Most of the dishes under-flavoured and at least 50% of the meals are not what is written on the signs (e.g. butternut was a zucchini; when do they read what is written on the butter - both options were unsalted, but signs throughout the 10 days showed "salted butter").
