The hotel is brilliant. I loved the property, the decor, gardens, the beach. The best thing is the service, which is simply outstanding and rarely to be found in Europe. Spa is very good too. Massage is fantastic as well as other treatments. They also have free yoga sessions two times a week.
Food is very fresh and the choice is excellent choice. There are four restaurants and I highly recommend IndoChine, which is an experience. The seafood restaurant is also very good as well as the buffets at the Rive Gauche restaurant. We especially liked Iniand and Asian nights.

When we came, the hotel was 40% full; when we were leaving it was 75% full. The main difference was felt at the beach. It was far too crowded, chairs next to each other. There was no privacy at the beach at all. This was the only downside.

Best season in terms of climate in the east coast is 1st October to 30th November. During our first two weeks of September, we had 3-4 days of mixed weather. Other days were fine, although it was always windy.

The best things to see: Iles aux Cerfes and Chamarel estate in the South, shop in Port Louis market - best prices. Do not buy at the beach and beware of taxi drivers and hired car drivers. They always drag you to the shops wherever they take you as they receive fees from these shops. I checked the prices at these shops and realized that I can do better during sale in Harrods. And I will know what I will be buying.

The resort was amazing. The service, decor, restaurants, beach and activities was top notch.

We have raved on about this place since we left. We had dinner each night at the main restaurant and it was the best ever. On one occasion I wanted to have a lobster dinner and my wife is vegetarian so the chef prepared a special meal (identical looking but vegetarian substitutes) for my wife. It was very good service.

We both had Spa treatments and was well worth the money.

A great stay at a great hotel. We would love to return one day!

This is a beautifully appointed hotel with the largest swimming pool on the east coast. Lovely grounds, on a superb white sand beach. Wonderful food and very good service. We were on half board, so we found the cost of other drinks and food extremely expensive. The junior suites are spacious but are very dark and have not been refurbished for ten years. The bathrooms are dated and also very dark with faulty fittings. Do please note that as the hotel faces east, the rooms only get the sun in the morning so it does get very cold in the rooms at night. We were always asking for extra blankets. The weather in August is sunshine and showers so not to be relied on for a fantastic tan. The sea is very chilly and not deep enough to swim in the safe areas. The pool is gorgeous but it was very cold, so a big disappointment for us all. The Residence Hotel next door has three heated pools! The water sports are excellent, however because of the high winds in august, it is not always safe to waterski or sail. I would only return to Mauritius in their Summer Nov-Jan.

Beau Rivage is faultless! The food was superb- a word of advice take your gym gear and use the gear every day to compensate! The staff were so polite helpful and motivated to make our stay one to remember.
The Junior Suite we stayed in was lovely. It was spacious and immaculate. You get clean towels (including beach towels) every day/ twice a day and absolutely nothing is too much for the staff.
We couldn't get over the gentle respectful nature of the staff. They absolutely made our stay.
It would be churlish to congratulate any particular staff as they all contributed to the Beau Rivage experience.
The Spa was really good. We had fabulous massages, and the prices were comparable to Jersey prices.
The only downside for me was the Dive Centre. It is run by young guys who donot have the same attention to safety to which I have been used both in Jersey and in Dahab (Egypt). I would not recommend diving with them and suggest you do your research first for other recommended diving opportunites before you go.
Booze and lunchtime food are very expensive- as everyone else has pointed out, so it really is a good idea to get a taxi to the supermarket at Flac and to stock up with snacks and drink which you can keep in your mini bar ( do this at the beginning of your stay). Yu are looking at £50 for something really basic for two people for lunch so be prepared. Having said all that the food is reliably excellent!
We were really unlucky with the weather as an anti cyclone hit the island from the second to the fifth days of our week long stay- gutted!
Do go for this hotel...I will be happy to answer any queries so do e mail...

We stayed at the beau rivage for 5 nights in july 2009. After reading almost all reviews on tripadvisor, we decided to book this hotel.

First things first. The hotel is on the east coast of mauritius in the village of belle mare. It has a wonderful beach as well as water activities. The pool is recently redone, but unfortunately lacks a hot tub which is seen in most new hotels in mauritius.

The rooms in the hotel are well Below 5 star standards. We stayed in the junior suites which are fairly large is size but need some renovation.
One does not expect the bathroom shower to malfunction everyday in a hotel of such high standard.
Restaurants are good but choice is limited. The chef was kind enough to prepare some specials meals for us on request.

The concierge service in this hotel is probably the one area where a 5 star rating can be awarded.

Hotel taxis are too expensive, I suggest using the taxis from belle mare village.

The residence hotel is just next door. We had a chance to get a hotel tour. Given a choice, I would switch to residence immediately.

All in all, our stay at the beau rivage was great fun. To sum it up, it is a 4.5 star hotel with a below standard rooms.
